Never ever ever again. Being in that character headspace was both a symptom of, and a cause of, my own psychological dysfunction in the early 90s. I'm never going back into that space again; the Evil Overlord is about as close as I wanna get.

2 out of 3 is okay.
I would join in a game of Republic of Rome. I would however caution that my experience running BSG suggests it's harder (and certainly more work for the coordinator) to manage a forum game where players don't own the game themselves.
