Sean - I've never played Republic of Rome, but if it's possible to play without a copy, I'm always game for a new boardgame.
I think it's playable without a copy. It's a *little* more detailed than BSG, but not too much. And there's a lot of social interaction.
(Mafia/Werewolf isn't quite as compelling to me - too many years in the Cam has kinda spoiled that whole set of genres...)

But but but ... someday I want us to set up an invite-only vampire LARP! Because I kind of miss LARPing. I just don't miss most of the idiots in the Cam.

I'm flattered (I really am!), but dammit. There goes that idle plan.
If you can find a small crew of rational gamers, I'll think about reversing my stance. I'm just not very hopeful.
