No, because all-male, or at least male-dominated, is assumed to be the default.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Right. I asked the wrong question.
Would any of you be inclined to point out an all-female or all-non-gender-based demographic?
I can't quite put my finger why it seemed odd to me in this situation.
Is it that unusual in your profession?
All-female? I guess it's less common than all-male, but then I'm not around to notice the all-male situations.
I think there are probably more women working in theatre (in non-performance roles) in Chicago than elsewhere. Percentage-wise at least. So it doesn't seem so unusual to me.
My best costume student is male and it is remarked on a lot.
If a team for a project happens to be made up entirely of men, do people normally feel a need to point that out? I just did a show with an all female tech team and a few times someone brought up the "all-girl" or "all-women" thing.
This doesn't seem weird to me, but, then again, a couple of women in my office feel the need to point out whenever people are wearing similar colors. Like we're in high school or something.
In my field, the fact that when we put together a tiger team (I hate that term for no explicable reason) on a project, it was all women and one guy was remarkable. However, this (broader) field has been dealing with gender issue (incl. litigation) for a while, despite the numbers being better than some others. Hell, in my interviews over a decade ago, I was told I "wouldn't last because girls don't" by some ass. To my great delight, he got eliminated just 10 years to retirement in a layoff. From a specialized enough position that it was hard for him to find work. Yeah, I'm cold. But though I knew the attitudes were there, 22 year old me hadn't been slapped in the face with it like that ever before. I'm still cranky. And I'm still there, with a promotion. Ass.
So to say.. sometimes it is noteworthy. It's a little annoying because you'd like to think it shouldn't be, but...it's still an issue in so many places.
What's a tiger team? I think a tigger team might be more fun.
ION non feminism news, I have to be up for another 2 hours. To plug in a crockpot. On the balcony (it is bbq pork and while it smells nice when I eat it, I can't stand the smell otherwise.) I want to sleep now. I should have bought a programmable timer.
Damnit.

Yeah, that's still pretty notable. Even more so than male nurses. I have worked with several male costume designers, but haven't encountered very many male stitchers.
In my field, the fact that [snip] it was all women and one guy was remarkable.
Ah. The "only." That's a similar issue that's been rolling around in my brain.
I do admit taking great pleasure in putting together an all female crew (many years ago) when I received a rider that specified "young, strong men" for the local crew. The roadies never said a word about it.
