Due to the DH having a very good freelance year, our tax bill is going to clean out our entire savings account.
Talk about good news/bad news! I was lucky that the one year I got a bunch of my income on 1099s (right?), I was also in school, so I got credit for that.
How do cream soups freeze? I think I have more asparagus than I'm going to want to eat right away.
I'd be wary of freezing cream soups -- I suspect that the fat in the cream will go all globby and separated. On the other hand, you could do a veg puree (which I'm certain will freeze brilliantly) and then add the cream only when you reheat it later.

Pretty much all of my income is 1099. I just finished filling out my extension and will hopefully get my taxes done in the next three weeks. I'm guessing I'll owe between $15,000 and $20,000 but I wouldn't be shocked it if were higher.

Huh. Delta and Northwest are merging. Not sure I think that's a good omen (though, really, could either of them get more pain in the ass?)
The merger will free up all their redundant personnel to help with dedicated research on new and original ways to inconvenience customers.
Just means that there will be even fewer planes in the air as they tighten up redundant routes and that the ones in the air will be even more crowded. Airlines used to run at around 65% full, they now routinely run between 95% and 110% full. This makes upgrades much harder to get and delays tend to turn into multiday nightmares since there are no extra seats to move people to when they miss flights or flights are canceled.
