Well, and I feel bad, because clearly those parents mean well, and were willing to let their son play with barbies and all, so they're just following what the supposed "expert" is doing.
I'm also wondering why he has this cutoff of ten years old. At nine it's OK to train them out of it, but at eleven, the kid knows their mind?? WTF?

I agree, at that age, it might just be a phase. And wouldn't that much NEGATIVE attention to the issue just push the kid more into it, to rebel? I dunno. I think the whole "no cookies" thing. Then again, I am not a parent. Either way, sad.

Ugh. Poor kid. I was just coming to post that I think I have a wee Eddie Izzard,, sans adorable accent. He came downstairs in his sister's flowered pajama pants and pink shirt with the capped, ruffled sleeves.
He seems to prefer her clothes to his.
I had to correct a family member a few weeks ago who told him when he picked out a pink balloon for his birthday that "pink is for girls." It's his favorite color.

It's so bizarre. I was out on my deck yesterday and looking at some flowers I planted. I've been stressed out beyond belief the past month and just staring at them has been a huge relief. I suddenly wondered how many single guys I know could fill a planter with flowers and sit there and contemplate and not feel a little weird about it. And then I was really sad.

Poor kid indeed.
So far Annabel seems happy with her mix of traditionally feminine and masculine (hates flowered things! loves her new tea set Daddy got for her at Ikea! blue is her favorite color!), and I'd fight anyone who tried to make her more girly. OTOH, she's really just a few nudges to the tomboyish side of typical, which is easy for me to both defend and relate to, since in that area she's very much my daughter...

Not just me. It was usually a big hit with students. I think it was the clear favorite of all the movies I used in "Gender and Sexuality in French Film."
ETA: It has a visual style very close to Amélie and Pushing Daisies.
