Poor kid indeed.
So far Annabel seems happy with her mix of traditionally feminine and masculine (hates flowered things! loves her new tea set Daddy got for her at Ikea! blue is her favorite color!), and I'd fight anyone who tried to make her more girly. OTOH, she's really just a few nudges to the tomboyish side of typical, which is easy for me to both defend and relate to, since in that area she's very much my daughter...
Oh, yay! It's near the top of my netflix queue -- I'm glad to hear you like it.
Not just me. It was usually a big hit with students. I think it was the clear favorite of all the movies I used in "Gender and Sexuality in French Film."
ETA: It has a visual style very close to
Amélie
and
Pushing Daisies.
ION, my freshman roommate from Penn just friended me on Facebook. She hasn't changed much (Susan says enviously, reflecting on the 60 pounds she's gained since then) and has a very cute little girl. Must, at some point, send actual messages to all these people I'm rediscovering online...
IotherON, I haven't posted Annabel pics in awhile....
Annabel the Bat
Annabel the Bus Driver
Both of these are from the Children's Museum, where we had her birthday party.
Susan, I love her expression in the Bat picture -- completely engaged, and so clever, and just a wee twist of trouble in her smile.
Oh, she's all about the wee twist of trouble these days...
Signed,
Exhausted Mommy
So sad. Forcing gender stereotypes on a child in the name of "helping" him or her makes me want to cry and scream at the same time. My cousin M. is that kind of father. He has two boys, and God forbid either of them do anything the least bit "girly." His father (no blood relation to me, thankfully) filled him with venom and hate for anything "queer." (Could I use more air quotes? Seriously.)
In meme news, 16 explications down, 4 to go. Then I can go home and goof off tonight since ND is out playing with a non-Buffista birthday friend. Stupid being sick and having to get up early. I hate being left behind. It's happened so much these past couple of weeks while I've been sick. Totally not ND's fault--I would want a break from being housebound if I were him, too--but it's a bummer.
I love the Annabel the bus driver picture.
Just kneaded the bread. Now it's rising again. Bread is a lot of work.
Susan! When did she get so BIG??? And wow, is she pretty! (She always has been; I just feel the need to reiterate it.)
