Get up...get up, you stupid piece of... What did you do that for? What's wrong with you? Didn't you hear a word he said? All of you! You think there's someone just going to drop money on you?! Money they could use?! Well, there ain't people like that. There's just people like me.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

I can't believe Trudy has a place with separate rooms! That's astonishing. Are you still in the same area of the city?

I've moved 75 blocks north -- from the Upper West Side to Washington Heights. Its a lot like my old neighborhood was when I moved there five years ago.

I was hesitant to give up a rent stabilized studio apartment in an up and coming neighborhood, but the opportunity arose for a rent stabilized three bedroom in the next up and coming neighborhood so I took it.

I'll need to have roommates for a couple of years, but eventually that won't be necessary.

My new bedroom is larger by 20 square feet than my old apartment in its entirety.

Kristin, is it possible for you to tactfully turn down the subbing request due to your getting over illness?
No, unfortunately. Not without political repercussions. I'll be fine; I'm just bummed that my easy day is not going to be as easy as I'd hoped.

Trudy, that sounds amazing.

Yay, Trudy! Your new place sounds great.

I'm waiting to hear back from someone on craigslist about a free portable dishwasher. I should be packing.

Argh. I washed my mattress pad. The dryer melted the backing. Now it's all crinkly and parts are stuck together. I guess this gives me an excuse to buy a new one?

You know when you begin to emerge from a long illness and get your first clear look at the state of your home? Yeah. I'm tidying and decluttering in fits and starts since too much activity leads to coughing fits. Add normal chaos to the fact that ND switched the front part of the house around completely at the height of my illness (putting his office in what was the extra bedroom, etc.), and I'll admit to being a bit daunted at the scope of what needs to be done.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

keep popping off the mattress while I'm sleeping

Get some wide elastic banding, fold the ends over and sew to keep end from unraveling, place safety pins at each end, pin over corners and create an artificial "pocket." That's what my mom used to do.
