I had a professor of ethics in college. She is at a different school now, but is a leading philosopher of moral theory. Her mother is a peace activist and philosopher of ethics and her grandparents are Nobel laureates. Her father was president at Harvard. And in the third grade, she brought windex to school in a plan to poison her teacher. Little kids are immoral little beasts.

I watched a nature show over the weekend that praised the human animal at all stages of development for its ability to cooperate when there's nothing in it for them--separates us from the apes, it does.
I've met kids. I remain unconvinced.
Did I ever tell the story about my dog barking up a storm so that we'd come and let the other dog in?
I have a bad feeling about today.

But, that's the bright spot in that story! Those kids were cooperating.
Cooperating to do evil but still!
MORE allowance will lower withholding - check.
Dude. Do you know how many years I have tried to figure that out? I always say to myself, "self, you ought to do something more productive with that money throughout the year rather than waiting on a refund", and then I dig up a form and it says nothing - NOTHING - about what messing with the "or enter some other random number" would actually do.
And then I forget about it until the next year instead of asking someone, which, you know, my issue. But. Would it absolutely kill them to say on the form "deduct more" or "deduct less"?

I do too, sarameg, and I have no idea why.
Little kids are immoral little beasts.
Immoral or amoral? I would tend to think amoral simply because at 8 or 9 do children have moral standards?

Seriously. All of a sudden this year, I was like, "Fuck! What does 2 mean again? Is that the one where I've fucked up and owe a lot, or is that the right one? How could that be the right one? Not sure. Well, we'll see..."
