Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

ITA with ita. The science stuff stopped bothering me. At this point not going to get better, so my choices were stop letting it bother me, or stop watching. This is one the few areas where the name change is a plus. What Eureka uses is not science. it is syence. Same thing Dr. Who and Torchwood, and BSG use for that matter. I'm trying to remember if there ever was a Science Fiction TV series that got the science right.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

At this point not going to get better

Yeah. I've come to peace with a low bar. But sometimes they don't even make that bar and it does make me mad--the only episode I deleted right after watching was the P-brane one where they were stuck in the alternate dimension. That one just stank science-wise.

I don't know if they have advisors on staff or readily available, but they could certainly talk about stuff that's so complicated I don't know if it makes any sense. Perfect forum for that.

Well, Firefly got a lot of the space stuff right (silence, vacuum, etc.), though you did have to handwave where the gravity was coming from.

See, that's funny - the episode didn't even ping me. But I gave up trying to make sense of the science on this show (and many, MANY others) a while ago, so maybe I just didn't care, subconsciously. Or, I'm just easy (or dim).

The gravity generators!

Defying Gravity needs to just have said that, instead of putting them in special gravity clothing. They drink out of pouches, which is all good, but they just put a tray of food down on the table like it was normal.

Someone said that some of the rooms (like the quarters) are in the rotating part of the ship, and so have their own gravity, but why does Zoe strap herself into bed then?

P-Brane made a point that they were stuck in the elevator only going to what floor someone pressed because they were too intangible to press buttons. Didn't clear up that they weren't too intangible to fall through the floor--why bring my attention to fixing half a problem?

And pretty much everything they said sounded not just wrong, but aggressively gibberishly and uninventively impossible.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

For that matter they should have been able to walk out through the elevator doors and take the damn stairs to whatever floor they wanted, if only horizontal surfaces underfoot were solid to them.

Is this where we discuss Being Human? Is anyone else watching it?
