Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

I guess I assumed they unleashed it or it wouldn't really be extortion. And viruses seem to be their thang.

Oh, and tbtb were IDIOTS to build that tank without a way to destroy it.

Danger is my middle name, only I spell it R. u. t. h. - Tina Belcher.

No kidding!

“Not dead yet!”

I didn't think it was a 456 virus at all, but a naturally-ocurring one that they saved us from.

It was. The world was on the verge of a huge flu epidemic-- in the truck they were talking about how the 1918 flu had decimated the world's population and how the one they were facing had the ability to be far more debilitating.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

I remember that, but I don't think that necessarily means that the new one was naturally occurring. I assumed it was a 456-caused attack.

The fact that it is unclear muddles the motives of the people who gave up the children.

The status is NOT quo.

I assumed it was a 456-caused attack.

Me too.

I think the characters knew which it was; it's the TV audience for whom it's unclear.

It might not even be unclear for us if we rewatch.

Which I'll do soon. But not just yet.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

Just got caught up with the Boxed Set series (Eureka, Doctor Who, CoE), and DW was a nice refresher after CoE's darkness, wasn't it? Except for when the female UNIT head officer (nice to see her again, BTW) put her gun to Malcolm's head. Something I should have expected, but it was the only really dark moment in the show.

Eureka was as weak as y'all said upthread. Just...bleah. I much preferred ST:TNG's take on the phased people trying to communicate with the rest of the group.

Ann, that's a ferret.

The problem may be that Torchwood generally isn't a good vehicle for the Captain Jack character.

When he was introduced in Doctor Who, Captain Jack was a charming, happy-go-lucky intergalactic con man. That's the sort of supporting character that steals the show (Fonzie, Spike), not the person you want heading up a semi-secretive organization designed to save the Earth from alien threats.
