Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon
A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
I keep having the strongest urge to quit watching Ashes to Ashes, and I don't know why I'm not following it. I mean, at least Torchwood had aliens and fairies and monsters. I really can't get into Alex Drake; she just annoys me. I don't know what it is, but I can't seem to really care whether she lives and sees her daughter again. The creepy clown is nowhere near as effective as all the tricks LoM pulled, but, in fairness, I know they don't want to use the same tricks. This show is really making me appreciate John Simm and, well, the character of Sam Tyler. It's interesting to see the growth of Ray and Chris, and Shaz is totally adorable, but even Gene Hunt is irritating me on this show half the time because having to work with a bird brings out his dickish side even more. With Sam, the conflicts were more procedural and interesting, but it seems like all he does on this show is be totally offensive every chance he gets. And I have no interest in the Gene/Alex hook-up they're moving toward. I swear, sometimes it feels like fanfic come to life. I miss the layered, interesting character we got in LoM. The show is improving somewhat, but geez. I don't know why I'm putting myself through this. We're more than halfway through the series, so might as well keep going, I guess.
New Caprica 6 promo - there was another interesting teaser with Kara but apparently, that one has gone bye-bye.
Interview with Nikki Clyne - I didn't find it spoilery although she did mention in vague generalities somethings that might happen with her character.
SciFi's next original monster movie features a monster made out of animated rocks that's basically identical to the one in Galaxy Quest.
Awesome!
But where's Aztec Dinosaur, or whatever they named the movie about conquistadors and T-Rex? (It's written by a couple of the Farscape writers, which is why I'm interested.)
It's supposed to return in the fall, Fay. It actually got pretty good ratings for something so deeply offbeat.
Yay! I loved it very much! I was trying to think of what the word was for its style and aesthetic, and I was coming up blank - because it's clearly NOT goth, not at all - and yet it shares the fairytale, fantastical and whimsical elements, very Series of Unfortunate Events. (Or perhaps more The Littlest Elf, or whatever that cheery movie was...) But the visual aesthetic - hell, AND the narrative style for that matter - is more like something from a musical, isn't it? With all those lush colours and what have you.
I mean, yes, Amelie, obviously - but is there any better label I can assign it, to explain it? I feel that there should be something that evokes this whimsicality and cheerfulness.
Oh! And did you all catch Anna Friel's normal voice on the voiceover for the Dandylion Car advert? That was fun!
ion, I heart all the characters. I especially love the Olive/Chuck friendship. (And I vaguely want to read Ned/Vivian, and indeed Chuck/Olive Olive/Ned. Um. Although I do feel rather guilty about this. But - yeah.)
Talking to Nora on the train this morning about the most recent US Torchwood, I realized that it doesn't say much about Jack's life experience that Owen divesting himself of his Guiness is the MOST disgusting thing he's ever seen.
Also, WTF is up with the Senior Partner-esque little girl wielding Tarot at the beginning of the ep?
From the whitefont upthread: the MOTW stuff was pretty, well, lameass, as I feel it usually is. But the potential for the season long arc stuff (OMG, a member of the innter circle has gone evil! Where have I seen that before?) and the acting and the pretty are all still well and good.

As I said, Nora, Wolfram and Hart must have a Cardiff branch.
