Yeah, honestly I figured Ned wouldn't have time to construct that handholding partition in his car until after more urgently needed contraptions had been built and field tested.

Robin Hood has been axed:

WHOA! There is a massive spoiler for the Robin Hood season/series finale in the first sentence of Fiona's link. If you care at all, don't go there.

The canceling doesn't surprise me after hearing that Armstrong didn't want to continue. It felt as if the fun just went out of the show. I'll miss Richard Armitage in long hair, but I'm sure he'll pop up somewhere else soon.

Serial:

Having just watched the last episode of Robin Hood I have to ask, Did anyone seriously expect the show to go on? Why didn't they just SAY it was the finale? Quite apart from the faintly courageous, "We are Robin Hood," which was a call back to a previous season, they could not have gone on with the remaining cast. Much as I love George Kennedy...and I really DO, unless they gave Much's character a bionic makeover, Sam Troughton could not have carried the show.

Just seems oddly unrealistic and a waste of opportunity to make a clean break.

Plus, who didn't see the last two scenes coming? Lazy writing, sad to say.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

I've not seen it, so I can't answer to the particulars, but Robin of Sherwood did cheerfully carry on after Robin had been shot dead, by introducing a completely new character and having him take up the mantle of the name. Which did mean that they got to explore the son-of-a-Lord variation on the legend as well as the common-man variation, which was nice. So it's not wholly without precedent. But, yeah - pretty bloody unlikely.

Interesting, Fay. I didn't hang long enough with the '84 version to see that turn of events.

And...again...if it had been done, and relatively recently...no point in bringing in the handsome but fairly useless Archer character to try and recreate that scenario. (Although I did like the episode where that element was introduced.)

The only way I think it might have worked is if Armitage stayed and turned his coat. After all, it was his 'army' that made up the vast majority of the audience, I'll wager.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I didn't hang long enough with the '84 version to see that turn of events.

But that version was actually good! It had no camo pants.

Okay, I didn't give this version more than the one shot, but the one ep I did see (PTSD) was really stupid.

Well, 1984. Jonas Armstrong was born in 1981. ijs. It's not that recent.

::feels ancient::

Robin of Sherwood was fab. Aaw. And it had a great cast!

Robin Hood not so much with the fab, and, on balance, I think Tony Robinson's kids' show Maid Marion and Her Merry Men was probably better (and had an awesome theme tune), but I really liked the cross dressing Saracen Djaq.

Okay, you've convinced me to give RofS a try. Though, it isn't on surf...so I'll have to do some digging.

Speaking of same, I tried Demons today but didn't like it. In Fiona's link upthread, the story said it was a show that appealed to both adults and kids. I assumed it was like Sarah Jane but no such luck. I only liked one character and she wasn't near the top of the cast list. Sigh.

I'm running out of fun stuff to watch.

Oh dear - many apologies for not mentioning the spoiler with the link. Wasn't thinking - sorry.

Edited to add:

but I'm sure he'll pop up somewhere else soon.

He was already in the last series of Spooks. Likes to keep busy, I assume.

(And that reminds me: I have all four episodes of "North and South" on my PVR still to watch.... RA with sideburns in a waistcoat - mmmmm).
