Marco: Do we look reasonable to you? Mal: Well. Looks can be deceiving. Jayne: Not as deceiving as a low down dirty... deceiver.

'Out Of Gas'

Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

And I was about to turn off the TV when I flipped to Logo and saw a movie called "Dead Serious". Which is described as "Religious fanatics try to take over a gay bar which is--they are about to discover--owned by vampires" I was tempted, I tell ya.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

I hope the gay vampires win.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

Aw, I like Merlin! In a stupid Xena kind of way. It's got Uther/Morgana UST, and Gwen/Morgana UST, and Merlin/Arthur UST, and Gwen/Merlin UST, and it's generally very ficcable. And France is very pretty. And it looks like a Waterhouse painting - I do love the look of the show very much indeed. But, yes, it's very silly, and set in a sort of SCA AU that aspires to be Smallville taking place at one of those 'Medieval Times' restaurants. But - pretty pretty clothes! And very ficcable!

...yeah, okay, I can see I'm not selling it. Ah well. (And of course I get the comedy value of marvelling at the fact that Angel Coulby, who plays Gwen, is THE SPITTING IMAGE of my former employer, who is her aunt. Facial expressions, gesticulations, the whole bit. Spitting image.)

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I enjoyed the first two episodes of Merlin. I didn't see whatever aired last Sunday because I was at Can't Stop the Serenity, but I'm hoping my upstairs neighbor TIVOed it. (I'm still in the dark ages of VCRdom, and I can't find the VCR control to program it. Which I guess means I'm in the even darker ages of not-even-VCRdom.)

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

New Eureka is on my TivO's To Do list!

Oooh. Thanks for the head's up. A lot of stuff is starting up their new seasons soon. And a ton of movies I'm interested in are coming out.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

And the pretty? It's very pretty.

I couldn't get into it for quite a few episodes. I was having flaily "But but but but" anachronism head-go-boom stuff. And then I said to myself: "Fay, this is not England. This is NOT any particular period. This is cloud cuckoo land. Which, as it transpires, looks a lot like a Waterhouse painting, with lots of rich blues and reds and porcelain white. Also, man, get a load of the Uther/Morgana over there! Mmmm...tasty!" And then it was all fine.

Art Crawl!!!

It is pretty.

We've been getting two episodes a week. Although this week - we just get episode 5 - the introduction of Lancelot (based on the promo). I'm looking forward to it.

I suspend disbelief pretty easily, but this one takes the cake. And I just cringe at the complete and total shitting on the story. It's like when they make movies of Anne Rice novels. They take the characters and maybe a soupçon of the storyline and then fuck the story in the ass with no lube.

Oh, and I hate bullies. Arthur pisses me off. And the fact that he's a bully because he's the king's son irritates me because the whole reason that Arthur was a better king was because he WASN'T the ruling class. And . . . oh, my head hurts!

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I think I could enjoy Merlin a lot if the characters all had different names and they didn't call the setting Camelot. I just can't switch off all the associations I already have for Arthurian whatnot. I tried, I really did.
