A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
I couldn't get into it for quite a few episodes. I was having flaily "But but but but" anachronism head-go-boom stuff. And then I said to myself: "Fay, this is not England. This is NOT any particular period. This is cloud cuckoo land. Which, as it transpires, looks a lot like a Waterhouse painting, with lots of rich blues and reds and porcelain white. Also, man, get a load of the Uther/Morgana over there! Mmmm...tasty!"
I suspend disbelief pretty easily, but this one takes the cake. And I just cringe at the complete and total shitting on the story. It's like when they make movies of Anne Rice novels. They take the characters and maybe a soupçon of the storyline and then fuck the story in the ass with no lube.
Oh, and I hate bullies. Arthur pisses me off. And the fact that he's a bully because he's the king's son irritates me because the whole reason that Arthur was a better king was because he WASN'T the ruling class. And . . . oh, my head hurts!
I think I could enjoy Merlin a lot if the characters all had different names and they didn't call the setting Camelot. I just can't switch off all the associations I already have for Arthurian whatnot. I tried, I really did.

Yep. There are things I like about it. I applaud them for color blind casting, there are beautiful costumes, etc. But, its
so very wrong
that it's not Camelot.
I had the same problem with the Richard Gere-as-Lancelot movie "First Knight." I hated it so much that I've managed to block a lot of it from my memory, but I remember yelling that if they were going to bastardize the storyline so much why didn't they just give them different names?!?
I've been watching Merlin, but I don't know how long I can bear the stupid.
At first, I wondered why they didn't make it Merlin as a young man in a kingdom that wasn't Camelot, then I remembered that Merlin is supposed to live backwards through time, so that wouldn't have worked either.
I'm not very familiar with Authurian legend, so I too am enjoying the cheesiness of Merlin. However, Gwen being poor feels wrong. Is there any precedence for this?
No, she's supposed to be the daughter of a king that Arthur marries for political reasons.
Well, First Knight was a terrible, terrible movie.
Merlin is supposed to live backwards through time
I think of that as being a T. H. White thing, primarily, but I don't know if I am correct in thinking that.
However, Gwen being poor feels wrong. Is there any precedence for this?
Not that I know of. She was high enough status to help Arthur's claim to the throne, iirc.
I like how science and magic go together in the show. I also like how ASH's character does everything wrong, but he does it with all the best intentions.
