Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

I don't think Tigh or Adama is dead. We'll see. I do think Ellen is the Fifth. I still have no freakin' clue about Starbuck.

I just hope they don't pull a Newhart with RDM waking up in bed with David Eick talking about the strangest dream he just had. Considering all of the frakked up shit that's gone on in this series and how few episodes we have left... well, I'm curious to see how they wrap it up. Hopefully there's a satisfying explanation for it all.

Art Crawl!!!

Okay, the Newhart thing?

Totally perfect for the little cartoon at the end of the show for the last episode ever.

Bear McCreary's blog post for "The Oath" is up - but mentions some stuff about the score for the next episode so may be regarded as spoilery by some.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Damn, that's a lot of musical detail. I feel like a heathen for missing most of it, though I'm sure it all contributes to the overall effect.

Interested to note the tsuzumi--we had an instrument like that growing up, but it was African, not Japanese.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

I knew I heard a biwa! I had a chance to buy one of those in a random store in, like, Nashville or somewhere. But I didn't.

Art Crawl!!!

I know - I love reading his posts but I don't get it all. And it's fun knowing that ALL the major characters (and some minor ones) have musical themes.

I wish that he's have little sound clips when he's talking about the various pieces.

Reading bits of score certainly doesn't make it come alive for me.

Narcho is the cute dude from Second Wave

(First Wave.) Yeah, Sebastian Spence turned up with the Pegasus and I was so totally sure he'd be important because he was, like, a recognizable actor. To me, and almost no one else, but hey. But I think he just turns up from time to time because he's Canadian.

Also, hi, I just caught up. And I'm glad I didn't get around to last week's episode until now because it was pretty bleh. But the latest one was great fun. Starbuck's been grumpy for so long that I really enjoyed her adrenaline-infused mania & ass-kickery.

I'm always the big Baltar apologist so: I love that he's gone from atheism to devotion to "God sucks!" Plus, his goodbye to his cult/harem amused me. "I have no desire to leave you. [beat, shifty look] No desire at all!"

And yeah. I do not want Adama mad at me. Yikes. When he and Tigh grabbed the guns and the kid was all "I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry"? I don't blame him a bit.

I type that and then think of them retconning Nicky's parentage, but you know what I mean--a deliberate misdirect of the facts.

Well, Starbuck died. I would really like the 5th to not be Ellen, for lots of reasons, and there is some precedent for the cast & writers to lie their asses off. I don't know. I tend to think they intend Ellen to be the 5th without question, if for no other reason than because of how little time they have left. I don't care for Gaeta as a Cylon either, so... I'm fussy.

But Starbuck did die. We've since saw her corpse. It just didn't mean as much as we'd have thought it might. Which is why I'd rather be confused about what it means to have Ellen as the fifth than have them say she's the fifth and then take it back.
