Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

Art Crawl!!!

I'm not going to read that spoiler. I want them to tell me the story.

Anyway, I am still looking at clues that they are putting up.

"I make mistakes, but I am on the side of Good," the Golux said, "by accident and happenchance.” – The 13 Clocks, James Thurber

I just finished watching Farscape all the way to the end. I'm very glad I bought them in time.

Ash, did you watch Peacekeeper Wars too?

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

I realized that I don't really like any of the characters.

Aw. Not even Roslin (my personal fave) and Adama? Those two and their love story is just adorable. I agree, though, that several characters I used to love are now annoying to me (Lee and Baltar, I'm looking at you).

but the unrelenting grimness of it all is more than a little off-putting

This is very much how I feel. I appreciate the storytelling that I've seen, but I am so not in a place where I can wallow in unrelenting grimness. Even the show's palette depresses me.

I may watch it anyway, but yeah.

Ash, did you watch Peacekeeper Wars too?

Yes, just a couple of weeks ago. It's been a long time since I've been that happy with the ending of a show, for several reasons.

I don't know why the grim doesn't bother me, but I'm glad it doesn't.

I realized that I don't really like any of the characters.

This is the problem that I had with Grey's Anatomy. Except Bailey.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

This is the problem that I had with Grey's Anatomy. Except Bailey.

They have me as long as they have Kevin McKidd. Mmmm.

I feel just like Jilli about BSG. I like it enough to watch it, but I don't feel the love most watchers I know seem to. And I've only once made the mistake of watching more than one ep in a day. Too much. No fun.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

I never liked Baltar, but it's gotten to the point that any ending that doesn't involve his being drawn and quartered will be unsatisfactory to me.

I made the comment once on another board that BSG was a bit, you know, grim and depressing and not really what I look for in escapist viewing. I was told quite emphatically that it was war for God's sake, and the almost-annihilation of the human race -- it's not supposed to be fun! But these are people that didn't just drink the kool-aid, they swilled it, and are convinced that this is just the perfectest show that ever existed, and no opposing viewpoints are to be allowed. I watch it, sometimes, and I was drawn into the occupation episodes, but yeah... not really something to view lightly.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

I respect BSG more than I enjoy it, and I think a lot of that has to do with the grim tone. I'll watch to the end, but it's never been something that I got a lot of joy out of.
