A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
OK. I don't know how many people here watch vids, but there was a DW vid about the Tenth Doctor from the Vividcon this weekend (set to The Flobots' "Handlebars") that completely blew my mind. [link]
Seriously. The song is so perfect, the narrative told so well, and the progression so brilliant, it'll probably work for you even if you've never watched vids before -- hell, even if you've never watched Doctor Who before. The economy of the storytelling in vids, how you can pack so much into three and a half minute of a song, better than you can tell in a 50,000-word fic sometimes, is one of the reasons I love watching vids. And this is one of the very best.
Any other watchers of
The Middleman
catch last night's episode? Apparently animated vampire puppets are the surest way to my funny bone - I was gasping for air from the laughing throughout much of the show. (And the female lead had a great reference to "at least three Canadian vampire detective shows.")
Even though Javi can only identify two!
I've totally missed the boat on this Middleman thing. So it's good, eh?
Yes, it is. It's great fun and totally lovable. It's like
Pushing Daisies
meets
The X-Files.
Or
Men in Black
meets
The Avengers.
Or
Wonderfalls
meets
Due South.
Characterwise. That last one is Vonnie.

good's kind of a stretch, I think. Enjoyable, sure. I think it's a bit simplistic, though can be entertaining. It sometimes requires a large amount of suspension of disbelief about the "normal" stuff*. To me, it's the kind of show that you watch if you remember to, but don't bother to set a season pass.
* I blame Joss for raising the bar for this. It used to be that if you were watching a fantasy/sci fi show about something completely unrealistic (say, monsters), the rest of the environment was often unrealistic as well, and people would say "well, you're watching a show about monsters, what do you expect, realism?" But, then, along came Buffy with its consistency and throughline and complete characters, and ruined it!
I'm so happy that I now have TWO vampire puppet shows to do a nice little double feature with.
Which Canadian Vampire Detective Show did he miss?
And two American Vampire Detective Shows!

oh, yeah, that bothers me.

Exactly!

Ouch.

I disagree. I think the characters ground the show very nicely. It's great that in this wacky show with aliens and vampire puppets, you have a genuine, strong friendship between Wendy and Lacey, for instance. I think it's a pretty cohesive package. Even when the jokes were uneven in the beginning, I thought the combination of the "normal" stuff and the Middleman stuff still worked well.
