A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

Embrace the idea that we are the leaders we've been looking for. Grace Lee Boggs

So, as mentioned above, I just finished The 4400. I had completely forgotten that it was cancelled. I vaguely remember hearing that it had gone downhill, but that was not my experience in watching it. If anything, I was growing to like it more. As the mythology grew more complex, I grew more intrigued. Even contradictions struck me as indicative of the contradictions of life and varying points of view, rather than plot holes (like the whole vampires in sunlight change in s2 BtVS).

When I realized that the show was over, with a cliffhanger, no less, I was seriously bummed. Now, I'm starting to get used to the idea, and while I'd rather watch more, part of me is kind of glad, because I kind of think that they would have had Tom take the promicin, and I really don't want him to. It seems like they might be able to do more with the show if he does take it, and Kyle seems so matter-of-fact about it. However, there are two reasons why I don't think he would, despite his love and growing respect for his son. 1) I think he believes that some kind of balance of power is important. Yes, the Marked have turned out to be bad, and it seems like some intervention from the future may be truly warranted. He clearly has some respect for Jordan Collier. However, while he respects him, I think he also kind of fears him, and feels that the religion he's creating may be going too far. 2) I think he's kind of mad at the people of the future for all the grief he's suffered, especially losing Alana, and that he's just ornery enough to not want to blindly follow their guidance.

Also, I've never gotten into fanfic before, but this might be the mythology that finally leaves me desperate enough for that. However, I'm definitely not desperate enough for crappy fanfic. Does anyone have suggestions for well written stuff?

Art Crawl!!!

I haven't looked for any 4400 fan fiction. I would love it if they did at least a 2 hour tv movie to tie up loose ends, but I'm afraid that's just not going to happen. (Notice that most of USA's current shows are more procedural than speculative.)

I'm not really familiar with USA's offerings, and didn't even watch this when it came out, because I have teeny tiny cable, mostly just broadcast networks and WGN. Nonetheless, from the little I did see online, I agree that even a tv movie seems unlikely. I read that they're coming out with some books, though. I guess someone got a contract for 4, and initially the idea was for them to supplement the show, but now that it's cancelled, the latter two may wrap things up. It's really hard for me to cross formats. I've never been able to get into the Buffy or Firefly comics, for example. I might try these, but I thought I would wait for the second two, the ones that tie things up.

I really liked the director's cut of the final ep, and loved the commentary. Although it didn't really tie more up, I felt more closure listening to Peters talk about the cancellation.

I honestly never thought I would go all fangurl on this show.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Crap - I finally got caught up with Eureka, and the end of the ep was cut off!! I missed the entire last act. Is it on Hulu, by any chance?

(I can't ahem - Universal knows my IP address.)

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

Is it on Hulu, by any chance?

Oui.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Anybody else seen the Sarah Connor Chronicles preview for the new season? I only saw it without sound, but it DID prominently feature Ms. Shirley Manson!!!

Art Crawl!!!

Did it? I had heard about that casting but somehow have missed the promo. (And I've been watching the repeats. Annoying.)

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

So I just saw the last three episodes of House Season 4 (having not seen anything since watching most of season 1), and I confess I was very sucked in.

Also?

I am thoroughly embarassed that it took my friend to point out that the show is blatantly riffing on Sherlock Holmes.

I...I'm sort of shocked at myself. I think it's a spelling thing - same as with my reaction to the book Eragon as relating to the word 'dragon' rather than chiming with 'Aragorn'. I'm more of a visual learner than a phonetic one. But - Jesus. Holmes=>Homes=>House. I mean, it's such a strange surname, such an odd choice, unless it's a great big honking signpost - I feel like a prat. I mean, sure, Wilson/Watson, fine - but I never even CONSIDERED House's name.

Am an ass. (I gather there are various other things in the show, like House having the same address as Holmes, and some Moriarty villain, and heaven knows what else - but I don't blame myself for not knowing about that. I'm just appalled that I didn't make the House=Home connection. Duh.)

Aaaaanyway, that aside - blimey! That was quite the weepy season finale! And now I have to start playing catchup with the damn show.

Sigh.
