Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

The whole episode should have been people trapped under the rubble, as those were the scenes that were actually good.

Art Crawl!!!

Matt - when was it ever in doubt that Aeryn Sun is far, far more kickass then Teyla?

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

when was it ever in doubt that Aeryn Sun is far, far more kickass then Teyla?

not Matt, but while this is true, it didn't stop me from immediately thinking of Aeryn giving birth.

Art Crawl!!!

So, she gave birth?

(Finally.)

I hope when I get to see "Midnight" on the tv - it will prove to be as intense as the youtube version hinted. Also, whatserface from Afterlife was an excellent guest star. Kind of cool to have a Tardis and Companion light episode.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

I felt like Jilli at the beginning of the episode. The hostess said hello and I thought "I WANT that lip colour!"

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

"Midnight" was seriously intense. I think that's about as helpless as I've seen the Doctor, even before the transference (i.e. the situation having gotten away from him).

Nice shout out to bottle episodes of all stripes (the shuttlecraft episode which was Spock's first command comes to mind), and love (in a saddened way) that no one knew the flight attendant's name.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

That's one of the hardest episodes of television to watch. It's as creepy as Blink, but in a totally "you can see it coming" way rather than "don't turn your back" way.

Huh--the Professor in "Midnight" was played by David Troughton, the son of Patrick Troughton, Doctor #2. Much taller than his dad, and IIRC, a big director of episodic Brit TV.

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

In general the Doctor does not seem to handle possession well. One of variety of monster where "I'm the thing the monsters are afraid of" does not seem to apply.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

  • Loved* this episode of Dr. Who--the weeping Doctor and the shaken Doctor at the end when Donna repeats molto benne (sp?) back to him? Yikes.

SGA: So who was that guy who helped them escape the Hive ship? And I suppose it was all meaningful and shit that Teyla's "I knew you would come for me" words were the same IRL as in John's hallucination. I just don't buy most of her lines, so it left me pretty cold.
