Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon
A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
Julie,
I dropped out of the show around the 4th or 5th episode. Something happened that I found absolutely absurd and I never went back.
I hope you keep watching because I'd love to know if you have the same reaction. I have no comment on resolution.
I just really wish they'd kept the
cute blond guy Simon who tried recruiting Jeremiah
instead of
Malcolm Jamal Warner
. Because even up to the end of the pilot
he annoyed the crap out of me (but blandly so).
That's what MJW is: a White Mulberry fruit. Described as boringly sweet. I never knew sweet could be boring before eating a white mulberry.
I'll give the show another one or two eps, unless I get some rave reviews telling me it gets better. I was really hoping it would be a bit bleaker and more hard, but it's a bit too touchy-feely, do the right thing, honor and promisecakes. On the plus side I can make an excellent drinking game out of "Spot the BSG actor".
I liked MJW in Jeremiah because he gives Jeremiah shit.
But the show is written by Straczinsky, which means the dialog is Really Really Bad. Even the "good" episodes are unbearably clunky.
I got about ten episodes in and have no incentive to keep going, and I'm a big apocalypse fan.
OTOH, it's a great source for Canadian Actor Bingo.
But, but, Kurdy's such a whiny bitch!
Why don't I remember the dialogue being this bad on B5?
Because on B5 the characters were making a lot of poetic speeches and proclamations, which masked how clunky the more casual conversations were.

which masked how clunky the more casual conversations were.
And now I remember how awkward some (most) of those were. When I think of B5, I think of Peter Jurasik and Mira Furlong and Andreas Katsulas. Possibly the only show off the top of my head where the characters in prosthetics and bad hair were my favorite.
Yeah. Katsulas in particular... I think the fact that his face was completely hidden by prosthetics & makeup made his voice & intonation so much more striking.
But I miss Garibaldi the most.
OMG! I just realized -- that's why the Earth got nuked on Galactica! It's because the virtual Garibaldi blew the place up in "The Deconstruction of Falling Stars"! It's a crossover! So the ragtag fleet should go look for the Mars Colony, and then everything will be fine.

Oh, awesome. Thanks for posting this, Sumi.
I think it telling of great story-telling as well as acting that the characters and relationships I liked most were between G'Kar and Londo. Those were two high-caliber actors, and maybe they got the better dialogue, or maybe they transcended it, I don't know, but those two especially ruled. Or maybe it was, yes, the given alien-ness of their costume that made what they had to say that much more acceptable.
What I'm not liking about
Jeremiah
is descending from disdain of a great idea poorly executed to sheer apathy (the second episode especially). There were seeds of a great story, and within an hour and thirtyone minutes settled into a tired rut of "and these are their many adventures based out of Thundermountain". C'mon, Perry! Priestly just out-acted you!
