Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

I will no doubt have other thoughts about this ep, but while I was watching it, I was thinking that that castle would be a great setting for a D&D dungeon crawl.

A stray observation from Heaven Sent: it's leading in to the payoff from Day of the Doctor, the return to Gallifrey. The Doctor sends the boy off to the Capitol with these words:

"Go to the city. Find somebody important. Tell them, I’m back. Tell them, I know what they did, and I’m on my way. And if they ask you who I am, tell them, I came the long way round."

And the closing monologue in Day of the Doctor:

"Clara sometimes asks me if I dream. “Of course I dream”, I tell her. “Everybody dreams”. “But what do you dream about?,” she’ll ask. “The same thing everybody dreams about,” I tell her. “I dream about where I’m going.” She always laughs at that. “But you’re not going anywhere, you’re just wandering about.” That’s not true. Not anymore. I have a new destination. My journey is the same as yours, the same as anyone’s. It’s taken me so many years, so many lifetimes, but at last I know where I’m going. Where I’ve always been going. Home. The long way around."

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

Something I never thought I would ever say: I’m really enjoying Calista Flockhart’s performance.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

She's been way better than I expected after the pilot.

Pity that Red Tornado got blown up, although I suppose the Morrow could've built more than one. That would explain the reappearing arm.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Episodes 4-6 have done a good job establishing Cat as an actual character, so she's got a lot more to work with as an actor, too.

I'm digging the show more and more. Melissa Benoist's post-car-punching monologue hit me right in the Kryptonian feels.

BUT WHAT THE FUCK WHY IS SHE BLEEDING. Where's the Kryptonite? Is Cat's mom made of Kryptonite? Maaaaaaaaaaybe.

All is well that ends in pizza.

Maybe she used up more than enough "yellow" sun (It's white, dammit!) to temporarily lose her protective crunchy shell.

One theory I saw elsewhere suggested that she drained her power when she amped up her heat vision.

(It's white, dammit!)

Sorry, but no. The blackbody radiation spectrum for the sun maxes out in the yellow region of the visible spectrum, so there is more yellow than other visible colors.

It could be like Superman's (new) solar flare power.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

The Flash: That. Was. Awesome.

GS: If you had to choose between kicking evil in the head or the behind, which would you choose, and why? Minsc: I'm not sure I understand the question. I have two feet, do I not? You do not take a small plate when the feast of evil welcomes seconds.

I enjoyed the episode, but years of watching DC Animated shows left me put off by The Flash's version of Vandal Savage. He's a lot more suave and mostly-unflappable in those. This guy seemed a little too scenery-chewing in comparison.
