Jayne: What're you gonna tell the others? Mal: About what? Jayne: About why I'm dead. Mal: Hadn't thought about it. Jayne: Make something up. Don't tell 'em what I did.

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

I didn't know that Jenna Coleman was leaving the show. All I thought was, how is the Doctor going to bring her back? What's the twist?

Still, a pretty creepy episode. I kept expecting the raven to caw out a "nevermore" a time or two. I might have been slightly disappointed that didn't happen.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

So, Sleepy Hollow just went full-on Gift.

I found it very annoying because it felt more like outright stealing than a homage. The protagonist goes against a God and sacrifices herself to save her sister, and it the same episode where we find out that there are Witnesses in every generation.

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

Mostly I found that singularly devoid of dramatic tension. The new villain is boring (I have enjoyed Pandora for her campiness at least but I'm all ~whatever~ about this dude) and there is zero chance Abbie is dead. I mean, they could have milked it more, tugged at the heartstrings, etc., even if her recovery is inevitable. But for what was supposed to be a dramatic mid season finale, I was left with, "eh, I guess that happened."

OUAT has the most magical thing ever! A jukebox that plays Yaz! Please tell me Henry is about to get his new wave look on! Can't you just imagine him with a 1984 Howard Jones look?

OK, and I just actually got to that. I'm guessing if that actually happened someone would have mentioned...but the magical jukebox is pretty magical.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I'm binge watching Gotham today. The actor playing young Bruce Wayne would be great as young Emperor Gregor Vorbarra if they ever made a movie of Bujold's Vorkosigan books.

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

As an actor I think he is OK. But I am so over the portrayal of smart, traumatized people (plus aliens) speaking very [beat] very [beat] slowly, [beat] pausing [beat] between[each] word. It was somewhat fresh when Leonard Nimoy did it, and he could carry it off. A few others can. But most actors, IMO even most good actors, don't really do SpockTalk that well.

I like that, Calli. I think I see what you mean.

I just finished episode 11, and Ben Mackenzie is really doing a great job with his role at this point. I'm not sure what happened--new writer or director or something--but it feels like the show's leveled up in the last couple of episodes.

It's getting interesting. I'm not too into the monks and the discredited family angle, but some good stuff is going on.
