Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

Re: Reaper

I agree, Sock needs to be toned way, way down. I know he's supposed to be the comic sidekick, but a lot of the time I just want to say enough already! What I would really like to see is more development of Ben. For the longest time I didn't even know his name -- he was just "the other one." But he grew on me... they kept throwing little bits of knowledge his way, and just enough hints that there could maybe be a story built up around his character. A real story, that is (for instance, he questioned how Sam's soul could be sold to the Devil on his behalf, since technically you can only do that yourself. Ben thinks about these things. Later we learned that Ben's family had wanted him to go into the priesthood.) not that stupid greencard marriage story. Both the sidekicks are important, because Sam needs their loyal backup, but Sock needs to gear it down and Ben needs to shine a little more.

And I thought that's where they were going with him getting together with his ex and then, not so much. More strike collateral damage, perhaps?

Ann, that's a ferret.

I don't see (sorry, folks) many people remembering Torchwood in twenty years' time other than for the Jeopardy-level factoid that it had the first bi action hero on it.

I can't quarrel with this assessment. I think part of the problem is that Captain Jack was very different on Doctor Who than he is on Torchwood. DW was a charming pangalactic (and pantime) rogue and conman. Put him at the head of TW, and suddenly he has responsibilities -- and he's lost some of the je ne sais quoi that made him a delight to watch on DW.

Kind of like running into the partying free spirit ten years later, after a marriage and two kids.

pangalactic

You know, whenever I see this word I expect it to be followed by "gargleblaster".

Another word that might apply to Captain Jack, though not in the original Hitchhiker's Guide sense.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Zing!
