Yes, there were. There was even a prominent black vampire (who seems to be the Main Antagonist).
At least the creators of this show seem to admit that there are black people in New Orleans.

I missed a critical five minutes. Except I'm going to presume that in the end, Abby, Jenny and Icky either recovered or destroyed the book before 72 demons could be summoned. I saw that all three were alive, and I assume they did not trade the book to save Jenny's life.
BTW, some Hessians did desert to the Revolutionary side.
