Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Here's the show/game's promotional web page on the subject: [link]

There's a lot of in-depth information on the wikipedia page, but some of it is spoilery.

ETA: this photo gives me hope that we'll get to see Derek take on full alpha form in the upcoming season of Teen Wolf.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

So, someone mapped the TARDIS. Cool!

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Only alphas can become wolves?

That's been the implication, that betas only shift as much as we've seen so far. Of course they talked about the kanima potentially having a dragonlike alpha form, but it was a special case.

Laura Hale is the only werewolf we've seen changed into the shape of a normal wolf (or half of one at any rate).

I thought it was a born-were thing, not an alpha thing. Huh. Will have to go brave the wiki to find out where I got the wrong impression.

Damn, that wiki makes me appreciate supernaturalwiki.com more and more. It just feels so free of drama, although its keepers have definitely been involved in some, I can never remember who they are, because it doesn't have the smell of it. And it's so freaking thorough, and pretty damned fast too.

All is well that ends in pizza.

Immortal, Snarky, hard drinking, arrogant, and devious. With a British accent.

At least he doesn't have white hair...

Woe to the fucking wicked.

So, Doctor Who...

I liked the concept better than the execution. I've been having that a lot lately. (Have I mentioned that I would pay folding money for John Finnemore to write an episode of Who? That is a man who can nail the execution, and, you know, bring the funny.)

Also, it is episodes like this that mean that I don't have the gut-level "WRONG!" reaction to some of the stuff in House of Leaves (over halfway through. Jesus pants is that book work.) that normal people have and that the book expects. It makes me wonder how I would actually react to a spatial impossibility.

So that's why they leaked the finale title before this ep.

I expect that we'll move forward on the Clara Conundrum next ep, since she gets to meet characters who already know the-other-her.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

So, Defiance. I can't decide if this show's musical director is brilliant, or completely crack-addled. Maybe both.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Shoot, I remember thinking about the soundtrack but I can't remember why. But I think I'm leaning towards both. The crack-addled brilliance works for me.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

The second ep ended with a slow montage over "Come As You Are" (which was weird just on its face and then doubly so as the lyric "No I don't have a gun" was repeated over and over and over, over shots of people who do, in fact, have guns) and the most recent one ended with a slow montage over "Ooh Child" (used incredibly literally with shots of surrogate parents telling their grown children that it was going to get easier).

I..I don't understand these choices, but I think I love them.
