Prioritising quantity over quality? Nay, sir. Not ever.
Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon
A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
Love the Sisko, he might be my favorite. It's a tough call.
And I finally had a chance to look at that street art. Very nice!
DS9 has several of my all-time favorite episodes of anything, EVER. "Far Beyond the Stars" was absolutely astonishing.
I think I'll dive into DS9 next.
If I give it a hard think, if I was forced to choose a favorite...which Trek I would want to watch over all the others, DS9 would probably be it.
Somehow, it comes off less 'quaint' than the others. Holds up better over time...and the arcs are more engaging than some of the recurring themes.
I loved Q, but the political intrigue of DS9 is MUCH more interesting to me.
DS9's superior plotting was thwarted by me not much liking the characters except Dax (and Kai Opaka).
I think TOS is still my favorite, in all its cheesy glory.
DS9 has so much going on all the time. The Cardassians, The Bajorans and their belief in Sisko as the Emissary, the Founders and the Jem'hadar, the Klingons, the Maqui, the Ferangis, the Trills... you need a flowchart just to keep up with it all!
Garak alone makes DS9 one of my favorite sci-fi shows (or any really) of all time. And then there's so much else. And despite having huge affection for TOS because I grew up on it in reruns well before TNG started, and loving Patrick Stewart for all his wonderful moments, Sisko is still my favorite.
Also, bonus points for having the child in the setting (Jake) not be a wonder child, though a genius in his own way (at least by way of implication from a couple of episodes).
I'm starting my DS9 rewatch as we speak!
I'd forgotten that Sisko had hair in the beginning.
Nana Visitor improved over time, I see. This first episode is not her best for sure.

But at the time it premiered she was a revealation. I was a big fan of John Leonard and remember his review and particularly citing Visitor as a bright spot.
The relationship between Sisko and Jake was so much healthier that the one between Wesley and Dr. Crusher.
Plus, Jakes evolving friendship with Nog was interesting.
But, it was mostly watching some really great actors - many stage veterans - interacting with each other. The Quark/Odo relationship and feud would not have been nearly so interesting with lesser actors.
