You're wrong about River. River's not on the ship. They didn't want her here, but she couldn't make herself leave. So she melted... Melted away. They didn't know she could do that, but she did.

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

I'm starting my DS9 rewatch as we speak!

I'd forgotten that Sisko had hair in the beginning.

Nana Visitor improved over time, I see. This first episode is not her best for sure.

Danger is my middle name, only I spell it R. u. t. h. - Tina Belcher.

Nana Visitor improved over time, I see. This first episode is not her best for sure.

But at the time it premiered she was a revealation. I was a big fan of John Leonard and remember his review and particularly citing Visitor as a bright spot.

The relationship between Sisko and Jake was so much healthier that the one between Wesley and Dr. Crusher.

Plus, Jakes evolving friendship with Nog was interesting.

But, it was mostly watching some really great actors - many stage veterans - interacting with each other. The Quark/Odo relationship and feud would not have been nearly so interesting with lesser actors.

Thrive to spite them

I don't remember if this is accurate or not, but I had read somewhere that Gene Roddenberry thought that the Federation would have evolved beyond interpersonal conflict by TNG and so that's why there wasn't any kind of serious interpersonal conflict written into the characters. Which if it's true, I think hampered the the writing.

I remember when DS9 came out someone I knew (and probably a lot of people) really looked down on the space station concept - it doesn't go anywhere! Star Trek is about going forth where no man has gone before! Of course with the wormhole and the Defiant they were able to do that.

However, in terms of over all story arcs and character growth DS9 went so much further than TNG.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Damn. The funeral director on Being Human is hella cute. I need to track him down, and also get some BH tumblrs to follow.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

STAR TREK is to WAGON TRAIN as DS9 is to GUNSMOKE.

In other words, just because you don't go anywhere doesn't mean you can't have adventures.

Totally agree.

Absolutely.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Ahahaha, Arrow is chock full of Easter Eggs tonight. One reference to "DA Kate Spencer" (love love LOVE), and a headline referring to the firm of "Wolfman and Perez."

I love this shit.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

I was like, the guy in the Deathstroke mask isn’t Slade? But then Slade had his own Deathstroke mask.

My reaction, too. Plus, SLADE WILSON ISN'T AUSTRALIAN, WHAT THE HELL.

I'm willing to give this iteration a shot, though. Mostly because he's hunky.
