Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

DW 4.05: I really enjoyed this two-parter! Have totally fallen for Donna Noble, Supertemp, and I loved that she was the Doctor's secret weapon. I also loved her mum breaking out the axe to free Grampa Noble from the car. I always like when ordinary people save the day, rather than relying on the Doctor to do it for them, and with ordinary, everyday tools, nothing alien or sonic. The axe made a nice contrast with the guns, and the Doctor's scornful attitude toward them. (Very Jossy, that bit: "These things? Never helpful.") I like that he consistently values the "domestic approach" over violence.

Speaking of Jossiness, I was genuinely worried that the Doctor was going to die when he went up to the Sontaran ship at the end of the episode. I don't know why -- usually I'm not too worried about him -- but I suddenly wondered, would they have him regenerate in the middle of a season??? It would certainly be a ballsy move. But then my friend reminded me that RTD is not actually Joss, and I felt better.

And, okay, I'll say it: ROOOOOOSE!!! I'm woman enough to admit I may have shrieked a bit when we saw her face. Serious goosebumps. "She is returning," indeed.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

victor - what was the context of your post? It certainly wasn't spoilery for this season (as far as I can tell).

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

What JenP said.

Re DW 4.06: I'm going to wait for their explanation, or their retcons, but I have enough faith in RTD & co. to be rather looking forward to it. I read a quote by RTD somewhere that said this episode "does exactly as it says on the tin".

And oh, by the way, the actress playing the title character, Georgia Moffat, is Peter Davison's daughter, so she really IS The Doctor's Daughter. Which is pretty cool.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

Neat! Which would make her also the daughter of Trillian, from Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, right?
