Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

"...and then Legolas and the Hulk destroy the entire Greek army." - Penny Arcade

So who saw that twist coming? (Raises hand)

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

But how did she not sound like a Dalek to everyone?

I liked her, though.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I didn't.

I didn't stick around this Q&A long enough for the Qs--I just needed to see Dylan O'Brien in the background cooking dinner for him and Tyler P. Because they're doing the oh-man-series-on-location-let's-be-roomies thing. Makes me have baby show feels, remembering the days when the Js did shit like that.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

OMG I just realized tonight that Rory is Wash. Amy is in no way, shape or form Zoe, but Rory is Wash. He IS that guy.

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

Eggs-TERMINATE!

I was a bit iffy on the ep at the beginning as it started off with 1) Amy and Rory divorced (!!! DO NOT WANT) and 2) featured Daleks, who have frankly long outstayed their welcome for me, nevermind that they are classic Whovian villains and Moffat's FAVOURITE, yada yada. But the show managed to hit some lovely emotional beats with Amy and Rory, and did enough new and interesting things with Daleks that it won me over by the end.

I also thought Oswin was a bit too precious and brilliant and spunky and... generally too much of everything at the beginning, but I gotta admit, the final reveal really got to me and made me like her a lot. But then, I am a sucker for the "left alone and unmoored in vast nothing and trying to hold onto his/her humanity" trope.

Also, I don't know how I can talk more about this episode without talking about the casting spoiler most people know about. Err, are we allowed to talk about it here under spoiler cut? 'Cause I'm spoiled for that one thing, but not anything else major and don't want to go to the spoiler thread and get myself more spoiled than I am currently and... OK, the word "spoiled" has lost all meaning. I guess I can discuss it elsewhere if it's not allowed here.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

I tend to be a fan of that guy, so I'm pretty cool with that.

I'm not really much of a fan of the skinjobs.

eta: Vonnie is me on the whitefont.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Who: I should've seen the twist coming, but I did not!

How did the Doctor get the Tardis on the Dalek ship? And how were Rory & Amy cured of the nano-bots? Were either of those things explained and I missed it? (Which is quite possible -- I constantly find myself missing bits of dialogue on this show)

How about the spoilers-lite thread for that thing Vonnie wants to talk about?

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Oh, that reminds me – could I beg, borrow, or plead for someone with BBCA to record the episode with the spoiled thing for me?

No explanation on either front. I did watch it on BBC America so I guess it's possible they cut something, but I doubt it. Just deploy the usual handwavium.

Spoiler-Lite may work. We can talk about the new companion there, right? Although, after this episode, it'll be tough to just talk about the generalities, since it opens door to a lot of speculation given the guest star.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Rory is Wash. He IS that guy.

I don't know what "that" means here. I feel Rory is an impromptu soldier in a way that Wash deliberately not. The time where Wash engages, he's getting into a side of his wife' life that he knows nothing of, and he's awkward although they're successful.

That contrast doesn't exist for me with Amy and Rory. Amy's obviously less martial than Zoe, but Rory is more mano a mano than Wash.
