'Out Of Gas'

Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Sorry, fixed the link.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

Huh, so if only the Avatar has ever had that power (which, btw, is an awesomely stakes-raising power for an opponent to have. Anyone taking bets on who gets theirs ganked?), then that lends some credence to the truth being something not entirely unlike what Amon was saying.

Also, holy character parallels all over the place, Batman!

MAKO IS BATMAN.

I'm still a little skeptical of Amon's power, though. It didn't look like when Aang did it. Why would the Spirit World speak to him, of all people, and not, you know, Korra? She needs to get spiritual FAST and get to the bottom of this.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

I'm still a little skeptical of Amon's power, though.

I'm also skeptical of his origin story. It's a perfect excuse for wearing a mask, allowing him to go incognito with his bare face.

Yep, that too.

Prevalent fan theory is that he's actually chi-blocking, not energybending, which makes total sense.

Of course. Clearly Amon is not entirely on the up-and-up, even beyond the whole "using his position to increase the divide in society for his own benefit" thing. I do wonder if he'll end up being connected to someone we know.

It didn't look like when Aang did it.

It's been too long since I watched Avatar, as I don't recall this.

It's interesting that the Chi-blockers also use what are essentially Tazers. It almost seems like they're setting up a science/religion divide (which would lead me to think that Amon is putting a spiritual face on a non-spiritual maneuver).

Danger is my middle name, only I spell it R. u. t. h. - Tina Belcher.

Amon is Dick Cheney!

I thought Abed was Batman now.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

Mako is SO Batman. That wasn't even a little subtle.

I do wonder whether anyone has pointed out to the Equalists that, in all likelihood, the city is dependent on the benders for all the infrastructure they're using. Skyscrapers and cars and power-plants and water & waste-water, and hospitals and shipping, and all that--that's got to be benders making it work.

Notably better-trained benders than the ones who are working as muscle for protection rackets, but still: benders keep the water clean and the trains running on time. I can see how that might in itself create some resentment, but so far all of Amon's propaganda has been about physical oppression, rather than "benders get all the good jobs" or "all the most powerful politicians are benders".

Anyway, that was fun, and interesting. And the show's reluctance to let us see Amon's face makes me wonder if we're going to get, through him, another connection with the first series. Just wondering.

I mainlined Season 4 of Eureka to catch up to this season. I had forgotten what a gifted physical comedian Colin is!

Also, I'm not crazy about the whole Beverly thing. I think the series is better without her.
