Wesley: Feng Shui. Gunn: Right. What's that mean again? Wesley: That people will believe anything. Actually, in this place, Feng Shui will probably have enormous significance. I'll align my furniture the wrong way and suddenly catch fire or turn into a pudding.

Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

I liked it. Thought the pro bending was a cool concept.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Bryan Konietzko explains your whitefont.

The show is SO GOOD already, and I know it's going to get EVEN BETTER. So incredibly excited. And I love Korra as a character already. Also, all the other characters. And the Phonograph Merchant, who was thiiiis close to exclaiming, "MY PHONOGRAPHS!"

Love it. And I agree with the rest, too -- very excited and like the characters and the modernity they've added while still keeping the same feel to the world. And that there's still a connection to the original, but it doesn't overshadow .

In terms of Nightstalker - It was good and often funny. And Kolchak was both a crank and smart and had a big heart. He also was a lying liar who lies. But while it had had some stuff in common with the shows that followed, I'm not sure I'd describe it as a prot-buffy or proto-x-files or proto-supernatural. It had a nice consistent Noir style that none of them had. It was quite a good show, but it own thing, and Buffy, x-files had and supernatural has lots of good stuff that the Nightstalker did not have. NOt saying there may not have been influence. (Note:*may*) If you have not watched what few episodes of the nightstalker exist it is worth watching. Except the zombie episode was extremely problematic, so skip that one. But other than that, really good . But not the essence or whatever of any of the shows mentioned.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

What is "problematic" about the zombies? That's such a loaded term in fandom discourse these days.

Er while maybe it is just me, but in the zombie episode the zombie was a dead black man who could ultimately be stopped only by hanging him. Given the history of lynching in the U.S. that bothers me. Especially since I'm pretty sure that was the writer's invention. Is there actual Zombie lore where hanging is a way to kill a zombie?

I have no idea if it's just you--like I said, I've never watched the show, so how could I have a clue?

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I've always heard fill the mouth with salt and stitch it up. Hanging does seem to be a singularly unfortunate and symbolism-charged choice of destruction method, if it wasn't intentional.

I only know how to kill movie zombies, which involves fucking with the brain/brain stem in some way--head shot, decapitation, other gestures of that ilk.

I don't know what lore suggests.

The questin about zombie lore was rhetorical. Bascially I don't think there was a good reason for the choice.
