It's not fun at all. I am still watching out of my compulsive need to find out what happens in a plot I've started following, mostly.
'War Stories'
Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon
A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
It does include Heinlein's usual attitude towards women, plus a bit of racism he thinks is tolerance. So not without eyerollingness, But the premise gets points for me for sheer chutzpah .And if you can ignore the stuff you pretty much always have to ignore with Heinlein, it is quite entertaining.
OMG HEINLEIN I ROLL MY EYES FOREVER AT YOU.
Yeah, it's why I keep eyerolling to infinity whenever I see the commercial for John Carter of Mars. The books are INCREDIBLY misogynistic and full of gratuitous sex between John Carter and various slave girls.

Those are the Gor books, right? I remember reading John Carter of Mars in high school and going, huh, that was icky, and then I read another Gor book which was even worse, and had to read the whole thing because I was mesmerized by horror at the blatant hatred of women. I still haven't been able to erase that disgusting book from my memory.
Nah. The John Carter books (aka Barsoom books) are old-school pulp from the 1910s - 1940s, with creepy Confederacy-shoulda-won subtext. The Gor books are late-60s - present women-should-be-subservient-slaves fantasy. Easy enough to mix up.
Okay, thanks for clarifying! I'm actually glad because I was horrified to think the Gor books were getting to the big screen.
I think John Carter and the Mars books are much more a "product of their times" sexism (Dejah Thoris gets a bit of agency, even if she is naked the entire time), and Gor is "you really don't respect women" sexism, if you care to split hairs.
To be fair, John Carter and everyone else is pretty much naked the entire time too, so it's not as if Deja Thoris is being singed out in that respect.

Um, I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but... [link] [link]

And racist. Don't forget racist.
