Those are the Gor books, right? I remember reading John Carter of Mars in high school and going, huh, that was icky, and then I read another Gor book which was even worse, and had to read the whole thing because I was mesmerized by horror at the blatant hatred of women. I still haven't been able to erase that disgusting book from my memory.

Nah. The John Carter books (aka Barsoom books) are old-school pulp from the 1910s - 1940s, with creepy Confederacy-shoulda-won subtext. The Gor books are late-60s - present women-should-be-subservient-slaves fantasy. Easy enough to mix up.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.
I think John Carter and the Mars books are much more a "product of their times" sexism (Dejah Thoris gets a bit of agency, even if she is naked the entire time), and Gor is "you really don't respect women" sexism, if you care to split hairs.

To be fair, John Carter and everyone else is pretty much naked the entire time too, so it's not as if Deja Thoris is being singed out in that respect.

All of season 2 eps of Walking Dead have been piling up on my TiVo and I haven't had time to watch any of them yet. The general opinion seems to be "everyone on the show is too fucking stupid to live." I liked the first season well enough (it helped that it was short), although I was already rolling my eyes through most of the episodes. Should I bother watching S2? I'm tempted to go ahead and delete the whole thing.
