Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

Tory is starting to scare me. She seems to be embracing her Cylon-ness more than the three guys are.

I loved the ship filled with lots of my favorite BSG characters. Starbuck, Helo, Athena, and Gaeta, who is probably my favorite secondary character. I'm hoping that he gets some decent air time out of this little voyage. Heck, they even put Ceelix on board--I love the showrunners use of extras from back in S1.

ETA: Oh, the rebroadcast is up to my favorite moment in the ep--Bill reading to Laura while she goes through chemo. Awwww! Can I have a Bill Adama of my own?

Art Crawl!!!

See, I'm of two minds about what Tory did. On the one hand - is it more Cylon than human to protect yourself from the same fate that Cally had? I mean, because surely Cally would have eventually told somebody in authority what she overheard. (I can imagine her telling Doc Cottle - she trusted him.) And does it matter whether she planned the whole thing? (Saw that Cally was looking and therefore stroked the Chief some more . . or whatever.) I don't think it does.

All is well that ends in pizza.

OMG, just for DTs declaration of who the Doctor is, this may be my favoritist Xmas episode of them all!

I must admit I love his speech there.

I'm the Doctor. I'm a Time Lord. I'm from the planet Gallifrey in the constellation of Kasterborous. I'm 903 years old and I'm the man who's going to save your lives and all six billion people on the planet below. (pause) You got a problem with that?

Also, did they show the short bit of "Time Crash" with the two doctors before hand?

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

No, sadly they did not show that. That was freakin' adorable. Tennant is such a fanboy.

"Wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuf!"

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Russell T. Davies is an even bigger fanboy, though. My roommate said, "It's like he took all the Titanic moves and mixed them in a blender with The Poseidon Adventure !"

The Poseidon Adventure

I was totally thinking about that when I was watching it. Almost no Titanic refrences, though, apart from the ship (and I guess maybe Astrid's sacrafice).

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

That was just too cute! I really need to get a hold of more of the old stuff. I like that Doctor.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I was completely taken aback by the appearance of Geoffrey Palmer as the captain. Apparently I had him confused with Judi Dench's late husband Michael Williams, and thought he'd been dead for years.

Was anyone else less than thrilled by the bit about Queen Elizabeth II in her housecoat waving her thanks to the Doctor as the ship sailed by? I think I'd have much preferred it if she continued the antagonistic stance her namesake and Queen Victoria had toward him, and was shown shaking her fist and swearing vengeance after she'd been evacuated by the efforts of her own underlings and seen the Doctor shear the top floor off of Buckingham Palace.

All is well that ends in pizza.

Yes, but during QE II's reign he's been quite the force for good.

She probably has been briefed by UNIT over the years.

Trust my rage

Holy crap - I can't believe there isn't more discussion about BSG from last night. I personally was a bit horrified that Cally might airlock her son and not herself (or both of them) and was actually slightly relieved by Tory's decision. Still, woah. I don't think you can say you are "just like you used to be" anymore.
