I didn't even think of that! I just thought he ended up in the dystopian future of our universe! I don't see why a third universe would be on a shifted timeline. I don't even know what the hell is going on. What does the Machine do, then? I thought it would just turn off or something.
Speaking of, have we ever had an explanation why Amy doesn't remember the Dalek invasion from a few years back? I had assumed that the cracks in the universe caused that part of history to be erased, but the show hasn't actually said what happened there, has it?
Isn't that what happened? I think that's what we were supposed to take away.
