A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

Aw, that's love. I have no zombie opinions that I know of, though I'm sure I'd develop some if I watched/read more of the genre. I do love that Jonathan Coulton song, though.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

I'm still annoyed by the lack of zombies-in-pop-culture. I thought it would go away, but it hasn't.

I need to write all this down.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Would you guys characterise Highlander as swords and sorcery? Given that it has a lot of the former and a bit of the latter? Is there present-day S&S?

Compassionately intolerant

Would you guys characterise Highlander as swords and sorcery?

I would. What Highlander lacks in creatures ala S&S, it makes up with multiple heroes' journeys.

Is there present-day S&S?

Lamentably no, in my experience. Though I feel compelled to give it a lot more thought.

I'm not sure why, but a scene from the last CSI:Miami episode I forced myself to watch comes forcefully to mind.

They used a 'sniffing' technology that helped them to recreate the design of a ring, including the 3 dimensional detail of a rose design...as I recall.

The sword they wielded is technology. The sorcery seems to be the spell they have cast to stay on the air by constantly insulting their viewers' intelligence.

Other than that, I've got nothing at the moment.

I haven't actually seen it, but what about Merlin? I'd figure that for both. If it's still on, that is.

Merlin's pretty historically inaccurate, but it's not set in the present day.

Heh. I parsed wrong. I thought you meant, present-day, is there an S & S show on. Not S & S set in present-day.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

From Wired: Win Doctor Who: The Complete Fifth Series DVD

You enter the contest just by entering a comment on who your favorite Doctor is. Some of the comments are interesting in their own right.

Lots of comments like this:

My favorite Doctor was always Tom Baker, the Doctor I grew up with.

I liked this one:

Before seeing Tennant in action I thought there would be no way he could be as good as Eccleston. I’d changed my mind as soon as he said “New teeth, that’s weird!” At first season’s end.

Heh.

David Tennant!
Or Benedict Cumberbatch; he might as well be the Doctor.

I liked this one too:

This is really hard. I love every Doctor for his own reasons, as each incarnation is his own person. But as much as I love Smith’s quirkiness, Tennant takes the crown for me with his exit.

Regenerations are generally joyous events that symbolize the Doctor’s rebirth and the continuation of the great adventure. But when Tennant stands in the Tardis, bathed in that golden light, all he can say is, “I don’t want to go.” This puts a whole new perspective on the process of regeneration, forcing the viewers to realize that regeneration is as much about death as it is life. Each Doctor is his own man in spite of the memories of the others. For a new one to rise, the old one must die.

Personally, I've finally come around to having Tennant as my fave (I really only got into Doctor Who in the last season, so I totally loved Smith). Maybe it's Tennant's goofy smile....

Art Crawl!!!

How about Witchblade?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Obviously there was witch and blade in the title, but sadly I don't even remember it well enough to remember if there were swordfights in general in it.
