and again - awwwww Rory the centurion.
Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon
A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
And one more - So basically none of my questions got answered. And yet, I'm pretty okay with the whole thing.
Who UK: I'm sad to say, I'm a bit meh. The finale didn't really answer my questions either..or rather, my tiny mind just didn't understand the answers.
I've concluded that I don't love Karen Gillen as much in the end as I did in the first couple of episodes. She's grown off me.
Rory, on the other hand, love.
Who Canon Cuestion: Has there ever been a married companion before ?
Not sure how that will play out in the long run, but interesting.
I as annoyed that River's story was not revealed. That was a tease and I'm now less interested to find out! Bad story building, Show!
I liked it. I'm not sure I understood it, but I'm pretty sure I liked it.
It actually felt to me a bit more like an RTD finale, in that all of the science and difficult questions were a bit handwaviumed away and it was the emotional storylines that took centre stage.
Doctor Who: I actually like that they left the Silence and the exploding TARDIS as a continuing arc rather than wrapping it up. Also, is Rory going to be an official companion next season? If so, woohoo! I was surprised at how much I came to like him.
Okay, Warehouse 13 has some cute promos. And Eureka has retro smooth Jack and the Fargonator.
DW UK:
Well, I loved it. It made very little logical sense (does the Rory on the TARDIS now have a gun in his hand?), but it made great thematic and emotional/character sense. And it was just squeeful and full of great HSQ, with Amy in the Pandorica, and River having no mercy on the Dalek, and the Doctor playing such awesome games with time-travel.
And everyone who noticed about the jacketed!Doctor get to congratulate themselves for catching that!
And now we have two married companions!
Oh, and I was meh on Rory at the beginning of the season but now I'm all impressed because 2,000 years protecting your girl is some hardcore shit. And he probably knows a LOT now. Think of all the history he's lived through--the Doctor merely visits, but Rory lived through it all.
It was just great fun. And yay more River in the future! I love River.
Who finale:
I was a bit unsettled at first because the pacing was so dramatically different from the previous ep; took me a few minutes to get my bearings. Much more downbeat, but I think in the end it worked .
I read somewhere that what sets Steven Moffat apart from all the other writers is his ability to think in *four* dimensions, and I think that really showed this episode, with all the little clues dropped throughout the whole series. Just the sort of writer that Who needs, really. I've been saving my second viewing of all the episodes since the iDaleks and now I'm looking forward to them even more .
Consuela, I'm pretty sure that Rory is now human again, and that all the stuff with the Pandorica never happened. What I'm not sure about is whether any of the events of the entire season ever happened, but I expect that's something they'll clear up soon .
I also liked that a couple of major questions (who was behind the Tardis meltdown? What is the silence? Who is River?) were left open for another day. I also wonder if Rory will be a permanent companion from now on, but I expect, again, we'll find out soon .
Roll on Christmas Special!
Oh, and Matt Smith in a tuxedo? Wow. Matt Smith in a fez, not so much .
And I loved that something old, new, borrowed, blue referred to the Tardis. How are any Who fans going to keep a straight face at weddings from now on ?
