A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

Art Crawl!!!

TW 9 - This was a very Angelic episode -what with the demon pregnancy and the vampires - inter-dimensional space vampires!

I loved Ianto's line about having been raised to never speak ill of the dead. Very cute.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Torchwood 2.09: I hate wedding episodes on general principle and I also hate demon pregnancies. I also think retcon is a horrible, horrible thing, and can't imagine that they still use it so recklessly after all they've been through with it.

I also hate scary carnival scenes, so I imagine I'm not going to be much happier after next week.

All that said, I suppose it's a shock I don't find the whole thing just awful. But I don't. It was okay, I guess. I somehow thought that they wouldn't actually marry off Gwen & Rhys and that this was how they wouldn't. So when they did, after all, I feel like what was the point of all of that? Like somehow the risk that Gwen puts her family at is too much. (And she definitely should not have gone on with the wedding.) That she needs to cut everybody off, that just by being around them she endangers them. Just like how everyone else in Torchwood is alone, she is the only one with outside contacts, and they pay the price for that.

Which is solved, okay, by the retcon, but not really. I mean, how will they explain the death? How does Rhys go on with a happy wedding with that in the background? And also, they probably should have retconned the family after the chaos but before the actual wedding. It sucks for none of them to remember the actual uneventful wedding.

I just think Torchwood fucks around with too much too cavalierly.

Criticisms within the show, you understand, not of the show itself.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

If they retcon the whole wedding, don't all those guests start wondering why they don't remember Rhys & Gwen's happy day? Or at least be surprised at charges on their credit cards for wedding presents they don't remember giving?

On the plus side, Gwen probably gets out of having to send thank you notes. And probably the minister signed the marriage certificate before the ceremony, so at least they're legal.

When they retcon, do they create false memories? I don't pay attention well enough to rememberrecall.

I actually enjoyed the wedding ep quite a bit. I'm digging seeing Gwen and Rhys more and more. Gwen/Jack is still just a big "W" hands to me.

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

When they retcon, do they create false memories?

Nah, there's probably just a couple hour gap in people's memories. It'll be a little weird, but for the most part, the most anyone will be able to say is, "huh. I don't remember the last two hours. And why we were all asleep?" and Gwen and Rhys go, "I don't know. You were all fine when we left," and without any other symptoms, I sincerely doubt anyone will push too far. Again, not a perfect solution, but I suppose it beats the alternative, at least from Jack's perspective.

In other news, I have a total girlcrush on Sharon ReynoldsLawrence. Or maybe I just want to be her. In any case, love her. This is my excuse for watching what I assume will be a silly movie on Sci-fi. Also, Michael Paul Gossamajig, who is a cutie pie, so that helps, too.

Though, actually, that was sort of a funny little bit about how nuclear power becomes safer and safer every day.

Yeah. I just think, personally, it's awful. And it doesn't solve the problem of the dead guy. Which is a problem I suppose Torchwood is used to having, it's just that this time it was a dead guy tied to Our Heroes.

But it helps if I remember I'm not necessarily supposed to think of Jack and his actions as being good or right.

I had a whole rant about not ever getting to see the Big Gay Sex. I didn't post it though, did I?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Please do...

When they retcon, do they create false memories?

Yes! Otherwise it would just be an amnesia pill. Which it is as well. Retcon is just one of the factors.

Sharon Lawrence. Not Reynolds. Not sure where that came from. Sorry, Sharon Lawrence.
