A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
What is the person who has control of the spider supposed to do? Like does that person control Bertha? What is the person supposed to tell Bertha to do?
Clearly the young man who has been training for the spider since birth will be where the spider goes at the end of this storyline. It will be interesting to see how they get there.
Glad I didn't try watching Sanctuary if a spider figures in the story! Yikes!
I don't even like typing the word!
do you have arachnophobia? if so, do not watch this episode. at all. seriously. I think it would give you nightmares.
If however, you enjoy seeing actors you recognize from
Pirates of the Caribbean
in animalistic monster suits, "Demons" is the way to go.
I can't decide if the show's getting better or my standards are getting lower. It was nice to see the friend develop some agency even if she was totally useless for most of the episode.
Yeah seconding Le Nubian. I suspect that this (the current Sanctuary) would be worse than many spider based horror movies for arachnophobes.
Now that they have made Kali an actual character in their show, will they have actual zombie Jesus? Or is this not a fair comparison? Hinduism is a living religion. I wonder how actual believing, observant Hindus would feel about this.
Can someone explain to me how they tied the religion to the abnormal? I glazed over that bit.
The Cult of Kali has apparently had members serving as her heralds via the linked little(r) spiders for thousands of years.
God talking via abnormals. Hmm. And the tie to Big Bertha?
I took the connection to be that BB is the physical manifestation of the goddess. Why the goddess would allow herself to be controlled/influenced by a human via an extension entity was a bit vague to me.
Umm I took it that Big Bertha IS Kali. That is: Big Bertha is a giant undersea intelligent immortal spider with ultra-powerful telekinetic powers to cause earthquakes and destroy continents. The small Macrea(SP) spider allows "Heralds" working for the cult of Kali to communicate with the big spider and warn when earthquakes and other disasters are coming, and maybe sometimes talk the big spider out of (or maybe into) causing these disasters. The giant spider in dream talking to Heralds takes the dream form of a seductively beautiful human shaped goddess - at least in the minds of Heralds.
The show leaves room to interpret this as the Giant Spider being an avatar of the true Kali, but that is not the way I read it, and at some point maybe I'll give the arguments for it.
Incidentally, a friend asked what Sanctuary was about and I reduced her to helpless laughter just by first describing what the sanctuary network was, then who the major characters were, then the plot of this episode 100% straight. No humorous spin needed. Try it yourself.
