Well, I don't think it's anything they've said has to happen, so I guess it's one of the easier retcons out there.

I was trying to figure out how they could get around it, and what if they say that the 12 regenerations isn't a physical limit but something that was imposed by the Time Lords as a group so there weren't Time Lords living forever. So it's a choice and that way the Doctor could chose to keep living and keep regenerating.

I have a question about Rose and the Doctor and their relationship.
We were supposed to get out of it that she was in love with (or more in love with) Ten specifically rather than loving the Doctor in his entirety? Or maybe that it was this regeneration of the Doctor that loved her and if he regenerated that would change?
Does that make sense? She was so upset when he was going to regenerate it seems that it was Ten specifically she wanted.

I think the simple meta is that they're not following any canon, so they can do what they like with regards to regeneration.
Rose was upset when Nine was going to regenerate, so who knows?

I could understand her being upset when Nine regenerated because she hadn't experienced it before.
I'm not a huge Doctor/Rose fan. For one thing I was rolling my eyes with Rose acting like she was the first Companion ever when Martha was mentioned "I was there first". Nope, not really, especially with Sarah Jane there.

OK. Walk the question backward a bit: You're in love with someone and, in a heartbeat, they're about to look different and undergo a personality shift, which could very well entail that person not having feelings for you. Yeah, I'd think that would be distressing.

But the first time it happened it didn't ruin things. And he's shown his devotion to people runs through regenerations.
