Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon
A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
I've caught up on TW over the weekend, and I just wanted to say that I LOOOOVE Rhys. Whenever he shows up on my screen, I want to reach into the screen and hug him, for being so sweet and decent and generally awesome. I have total warm and fuzzy feeling toward the guy, resembling the one I used to have for Chief Tyrol back in seasons 1-2. Seriously, the writers better not hurt him! Because I will be VERY CROSS if they do!
I find Jack/Gwen all kinds of problematic (even though Barrowman and Myles do have good chemistry together) but (spoilers for 2x09)
I can live with the way that played out in "Something Borrowed". Their feelings have never quite felt like something solid and lasting to me -- it was a rash infatuation that felt like love on Gwen's part, and a stand-in for all Jack loves about humanity from his. I think they acknowledged that in the wedding episode, where both have grown up enough to now look back on it with some regret and wistfulness, but also with a measure of relief for having put it behind them without jeopardizing their friendship. I liked that. I liked that a lot.
Although isn't that a chronic complaint of SOs of law enforcement, the odd hours and sudden calls? He should have had an idea when he went into the relationship.
Yes, it is, but I imagine it was a bit more irritating for Rhys than your average law-enforcement widow/er because there was never any explanation at all.
I mean, I imagine that even your most over-worked homicide detective, receiving a call in the middle of dinner, will say "Sorry, ten people slaughtered at a Dunkin' Donuts, gotta run." Whereas all Gwen could say (without lying) was: "I'm out. Don't wait up."
Which I know would bug the fuck out of me. Multiple homicides at a bakery you go "Well, shit. Go, then, I can understand." "Gotta run" with no further detail you go "Fuck you, then. I'ma call an old girlfriend, get me a booty call."
Vonnie, you are evil. I want to read that so bad, but I'm caught up enough where I'll actually remember whatever it is by the time I get to the episode (this weekend, I hope!) By the time you folks with BBCA get to the blackfont, I have to skim quickly (and I try very hard to do that, my success is iffy), so I don't retain too much of what I catch. I'm at the point where my willpower is getting tested to the extreme, both white and blackfont. ::cries:: However, I've ahemmed through 2.07 so far with plans to get the last three shortly. I'm going to have me a TW orgy this weekend. ::brightens::

Yeah, I think that's just bad writing.
Yeah, I think that's just bad writing.
That, too. I mean, Christ Gwen...make something up!
"Oh, sorry, Rhys. Some lunatic just unleashed a horde of starving rabid Jack Russell terriers downtown. Ninety-four people dead. Gotta jet."
"Oh, absolutely, Gwen! I'll keep your dinner warm in the oven."
Yeah, but he'd probably start getting suspicious when these big disasters that she made up don't make the papers.

Torchwood can't make up a fake paper? They don't have Photoshop or something?
"Oi, Gwen...there's a picture of you arresting that clown who killed all those people with the rapid-fire popcorn machine! It looks like you were wearing the same outfit as when we took that vacation in the Carribbean.
Come to think of it...why are you wearing a bikini and sunglasses to work? And should you be drinking something with an umbrella in it while on duty?"
Sometimes law enforcement does involve, "I gotta go away, can't explain why or even where." Even in her old job, Gwen couldn't have said, "I'm going to be working long hours preparing a raid on a big drug ring operating on the wharf." Just the long hours part.
Though it would have helped if Gwen had explained to Rhys up front that her new job involved even more hush-hush stuff than the old job did.
Vonnie, you are evil.
Mwhahahahaha!! But seriously, 2x09 is AWESOME. Probably my favourite ep of TW to date. Oh, I'm not helping, am I?
t cackles evilly some more
Will nobody help a sister out and describe the last couple of minutes of this past week's (BBCA broadcast) TW? My dvr cut it off. Maybe it was just a fade out?
