Maureen Ryan describes it as more like BSG than SG1 or SGA: [link] I barely trusted RTD to do BSG (and in the end felt let down). I'm not sure I'd let the SG people at it. They're jettisoning the things I enjoyed about the previous SG incarnations for "grit."

But I'm trainwreck curious. And I'm sure it'll do decent numbers.

A friend of mine who watched it also made the BSG comparison. That didn't make me any more inclined to watch it.

And if it is good and stays good, I can always get it later.

Sanctuary starts next week, I think.

I watched all two hours. At the end, I don't give a rat's ass about any of the characters or have even mild curiousity about what happens to any of them.

Thank God the producers had absolutely no idea what to do with a performer like Ming Na, as I was afraid if she were given more than the expected couple of throwaway lines she might be able to lure me into watching again.

FF ep 2 continues to hold my interest! It was definitely more rehashing than I would have liked, but I think the producers have several points they want drummed into viewers heads before the plot really starts moving. If they can keep up this pace and not get bogged down in mythology, I think I'm going to like this show.

So I watched much of the first two hours of SGU, and it looks like they excised the charisma out of the SG franchise. Ming Na, Carlyle, Diamond Philips, Barney Collier's grandson--I think I'll be able to leave them behind without wondering what I'm missing, although I'll want to know any egregious racefail details. I don't need to watch, though.

I kind of liked it -- I didn't see much of Ming-Na or Phillips (couldn't figure out what his character was doing for most of the episode). I like Carlyle, and it's good to see that we'll have a character that the others will of course like and admire. Liked Eli a whole lot, and his minder-soldier, as they had evident respect.

Aside from the Daughter, there weren't a whole lot of female roles, were there?

The medic seemed to get a fair share of screentime and focus, though I have no idea what exactly they're doing with her storyline.

I'm fully prepared to hate SGU and only have it on as background while I do other stuff but I have to say, the first few minutes addressed a long-standing itch of mine.

How, in all the galaxies, can people who are traveling eleventybillion light years an hour step out of the wormhole all upright and tidy? It makes SO much more sense to me that they would go from flying to stopping with some consequence.

Okay, the 'we'll beam you up to our spaceship' moment was pretty old-school funny.
