Do what I do send an email along the lines of "I love you, I really do. But, I don't want to discuss politics with you or anyone else. So, please refrain from sending me propaganda, news, jokes or anything else related to the election. My head is in the sand right now and I like it that way"
That's her! An amazing life, and one in which she managed to wield a lot of power and influence, and yet one that's almost completely hidden from the history books.

ION - hard parental thing for my moment - trying to explain African American history issues to mac. What does slave mean? Why would they do that? - it is like dying a little bit.

I feel your pain. I had a complete "huh" moment with Nilly when I was explaining how and why Howard University was created and she said "but, why couldn't the black people learn with everybody else?"
What does slave mean? Why would they do that?

Though my head really *isn't* in the sand. I know plenty about the issues at hand; I'm just small-minded enough that I can discuss and strategize and analyze till the cows come home with people who mostly agree with me, but I'm not competent to thoughtfully defend the stuff that matters bone-and-marrow deep with someone who's jokey and dismissive.
Though my head really *isn't* in the sand.
mine either. It's just easier to say it that way.
