We finally got the switchover to rain here maybe 15 minutes ago.

Natter 55: It's the 55th Natter
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
My neighborhood book group is doing a cookie exchange thing this month. I need to bring 3 dozen cookies. I haven't read the book yet either. We meet Thursday. I looked through a few of my recipe books and some on line, but I am not in a cookie mood and none look good. Perhaps focusing on finding the book would be a better plan for now. If the book mentions cookies anywhere I will make some of those cookies.
I have lost my ATM card. I used it yesterday early afternoon, it has not been used by anyone since. I have looked through my house (where I KNOW it is) and cannot find it, so I just called and cancelled it. New one in 5-7 business days. DOOF!
Today I churched, then braved Macy's Herald Square fora return (waited only 10 minutes in a line and had a book to read - all in all not so bad), finished buying my angel tree gifts (our family each does this instead of stockings for the adults), found a stocking gift for mac, bought mac some new non-school winter clothes (school = uniform), bought a swim cap for mac (we joined the Y yesterday and they require one), directed my mom via phone to the good-guy transformers for a mac gift, and now need to change clothes and go out with the granny cart for groceries before mac gets home (he out with his uncle seeing Mary Poppins and going to a party).
I got a couple house-y things done, but now I'm mostly knitting and watching TV.
Last winter, I cleverly left my gloves in the pockets of my coat, so there they were when I needed them. This is where mine live in the not cold times. Actually, it's where they live a lot of times because I can't figure out where to stuff them when I get home. So I put them in a pocket and hang the coat.
Oh, except right now. Because it's been cold enough I need my hat. So my scarf and gloves are stuffed in the hat which is artfully tossed next to my purse.

Near the ground or somewhere up high? For me, having pets in the house makes comfy scarf/glove/coat owning difficult. The cat's fur is super fine and sticks to everything. The dog's fur is course and weedles its way into all fabrics. Both pets gravitate toward any item that I really don't want their fur on.
Furry scarf wrapped around face in blowing snow + lip gloss = furry lips.
Up high. On a small table that they can't really get up on. Because, yeah, cat hair...
because of the cats, I have become pretty good at putting the scarfs and soft hats away on a closet and keeping that door always closed.
I've surrendered the battle to cat hair. And my cats don't bother my hat/mitts/scarf otherwise.
My secret for not losing mitts, etc is to only have one on the go. For me, it's once I start swapping out hats, mitts etc, that I stop being vigilant of where they are and misplace them.
Im my house, I have a basket by my door for random crap, and a basket in my downstair closet for scarves, mitts, etc. If I hats and gloves are in my home, they're either there or in my pockets. Anywhere else and I'm doomed.
I'm back. And I have a snowpocalypse story.
I got to my parents' Friday night. It started freezing rain/snowing Sat. afternoon and went on all night. My Dad decided to go to both church services because they dedicated the new church organ that my dad and others had been working on for about ten years. (Most of that time was trying to figure out how to pay for it.)
Anyway, Dad goes to drive the Taurus, but gets it stuck in the middle of the driveway. So Dad then takes the 4WD pickup. Our neighbor is supposed to come plow our driveway so the rest of us can go to 10:30 service. But he doesn't show up. I try to move the Taurus but there's about 8" of dense wet snow with ice underneath, so the Taurus won't go where I steer it. Then my sister's GF, who is totally a take-charge/do-what-needs-to-be-done person, went out and shoveled the driveway by hand (there was a big mound of snow thanks to the plows on the highway) and my sister got the Taurus unstuck. Then we all piled into my sister's minivan and make it to church halfway through the service. Some amazing organist guy was there for the dedication, so we still got to listen to him.
Then - potluck! I had some old classics, like a dish of mashed potatoes, ground beef and sour kraut; and red jello with raspberries and whipped cream. Church potlucks rule!
Then my Dad took me home and then drove around the driveway in the 4WD truck so I could get my rental car out. There was some snow and rain on my drive back, but the temps stayed above freezing and I only saw one car in the ditch.
