Simon is supposed to be so smart, and so in tune with his sister, but damn it takes him a long time to figure that out.
This is an on-going irritation. He 'sees' her, even if he doesn't know what happened to her. He can calm her...just like a certain Heroes character who shall remain dead...but he so blithely ignores her sometimes.
Reminds me of the metaphor spouting lizard of ST:TOS. Pay ATTENTION people!
And I'm here!!! Just a little late (there was this woman from work...) Now I smell like smoke though. Good turn out tonight. I'm gonna catch up now.

Well, I missed the watch and post. But...I'm typing this from my brand new MacBook, using my brand new wireless router (with dial-up, oddly enough). AIFG!!!
Now, I'll be able to watch and post without cricking my neck around! The only problem is, I can't find my complete set of Firefly, and a friend still hasn't returned disk 1 of the other set. I guess I'll be set for next week, though.

ETA: Lib my first set of discs is in Greensboro NC with a friend, I actually bought a 2nd set for the WNP.

ya, the re-WnP was a great idea. Its fun to see what others pick up on an episode.
Book comes across really preachy in this episode. At least, more than usual. I wonder if they were still feeling out his character?
I am always amused by the Feds looking under the placemats. Hee.
For a lot of other TV shows I own on DVD, I'll skip past the opening credits, but I never, ever have when watching Firefly.
Una I just finished (re) watching it to catch up (so-to-speak) and I agree on all your points. The feds and placemats is really funny.
I also think Book did come across as overly preachy, mainly when he talks about the reavers only being men and believing in a power than can heal. It looks like he's manuvering for an avenue there. Still in the book before the script Tim said that the whole episode served to further characters (the Alliance and Reavers included). I'd pretty much guessed as much. It was the 2nd episode.
I wonder if anyone goes to Sonny Rhodes' shows and instead of yelling out regular song titles yells out "PLAY THE FIREFLY THEME!!!"
I just figured the feds looking under placemets were looking for what they thought of as "clues" or "see what else we can find."
