It was even worse than I thought: [link]
Firefly 5: That's my girl... That's my good girl.
Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe.
thanks for the link, bonny! I'd be okay with more of those popping up from time to time.
I remember those original Firefly ads!
I do, too. I remember them making me think that if I wasn't already a fan of Joss I would be avoiding the show.
As for the article, the only thing new there for me was the "make it less dark but shoot more people" directive.
Yeah, I think I've seen most all of that before. What was worse than you thought, Jon?
I either didn't know or (more likely) didn't remember the marketing stuff.
Yeah, that seems to rarely get mentioned in articles about the show, but as soon as they mentioned "Walkin' on the Sun," it all came back.
I remember being very skeptical of the show going in, and it took me several episodes to really get into it.
I remember being on board in a fuckyeah sort of way when Mal kicked Crow into the engine. Never saw the ads. I heard of Minear telling the dark Inara tale, but had chalked that up to shit in his head that hadn't made it to future scripts yet, and didn't realize that the networks had awareness of this development. And honestly I never found myself onboard with this idea. Not to say that my reaction is right, there's a huge difference in reading an idea and seeing it executed.
Yeah, I don't think "Inara gets gang-raped by Reavers" is a story that ever needed to be told.
I was appalled at that story and am rather glad it was never done.
