Dunno if any of you need it, but Amazon has the Firefly boxset on sale for $16.99.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

So a co-worker of mine, after having seen Waitress and Slither, decided that she loved Nathan Fillion. I asked her if she'd seen Firefly.

She'd never heard of it.

So I lent her my box set (and the movie) over the weekend.

This morning, she says she has to talk to me.

"I don't like sci-fi," she says.

I can tell where this is going.

Because she loved the hell out of the show. The writing, the acting, the characterization, the humor, everything. She and her boyfriend are already picking out the episodes they want to watch again when they're done. Her favorites so far are "Out of Gas," "Our Mrs. Reynolds," and "War Stories," which is the last she watched.

"Didn't I say, 'Don't doubt me'?" I said. Because I had. And now she's going to recommend it to other people.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

We're what--six years out from production? And does anybody have any stories of loaning their dvds and having someone *not* like the show? I have none, and I've seen none here. If Firefly were to premiere this season, we'd get five years--or at least three. The audience is ready for it now. They weren't, when it aired.

...of course it's the viral underground thing of all the rabid fans pushing it onto an unsuspecting populace, the show itself creating a niche for the show, I'm pretty sure. Still, ahead of its time, a pioneer in approach, in cinematography, in music, in attitude. Those things keep showing up elsewhere.

I'd like my show back now, please. Even though the actors have aged out of their roles, and everybody's moved on.

Never fall in love with somebody you actually love.

If Firefly were to premiere this season, we'd get five years--or at least three. The audience is ready for it now. They weren't, when it aired.

If Firefly aired now, I think it'd almost certainly tank and get cancelled. Probably quicker than it did in 2002, as evident with Drive's 6 episodes. Major networks are even more trigger happy now, unfortunately. My general feeling is that 'I don't like sci-fi' is something which majorly limits a show's audience.

I did have one person who refused to watch Firefly 'cos it didn't have vampires in it, though. Oh dear.

You know, we could experiment and cancel football.

I think Kevin is right. The test will be Virtuality in the spring. It is science fiction ON A SPACESHIP so there is no hiding it and sneaking it past the scifiphobes.

I don't have one personally, but I just read about one. A couple friends and her boyfriend. So it does happen.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

I have a friend who's kind of meh but her husband loves it.

Embrace the idea that we are the leaders we've been looking for. Grace Lee Boggs

I had a couple of friends who thought it was very good, but not for them. One is a friend in his 80s who rarely watches tv, and another was, I think, bothered by the darkness. Although, she liked it, just not enough to watch the whole thing.

omnis, pursue. That's an order from a shy woman who can use M-16. - Shir

So I'm at my new job, in the break room playing with my brand new Apple laptop. And two co-workers walk in from opposite doors within 45 seconds or so of each other, and both make a "shiny" reference to the new computer. I say something along the lines of "does this mean we are all Firefly fans" Sure enough! Ya, that's a good sign of new work place.

ION, I'm moved in enough now to bring this up again. I've waited, cuz I couldn't do it while moving. But my stuff is here, and I got a shiny new big screen TV. So! WnP for the movie anytime soon?
