On my seventh birthday, I wanted a toy fire truck, and I didn't get it, and you were real nice about it, and then the house next door burnt down, and then real firetrucks came, and for years I thought you set the fire for me. And if you did, you can tell me!

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

Was it in SD, Jesse? How awful.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

That's horrible, Jesse. I hope everyone's OK.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Oh, Jesse, ow. Your poor dad and his poor brother. Has your dad heard from him yet or been able to reach him?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yeah, everyone's OK -- I had heard that they evacuated this morning. But still! Crazy. In this set of MSNBC pictures, [link] I'm pretty sure the house that is 17608 is my uncle's house.

I'm glad your family is safe, Jesse, and that your dad knew it when he saw the pictures.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

My father just watched his brother's house burn to the ground on CNN.

Shit. Whoa.

Yeah, that's a great point. That would have been really horrific, since my aunt doesn't work full-time and I think sometimes has a grandchild at home and etc.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

The Calculus of Saying “I Love You”

The Engineer, delightful and rational fellow that he is, made it clear that he would not be saying “I love you” until he was sure. Otherwise, he might waste this very important statement by saying it too early in the relationship, when his love was still growing rapidly, thereby taking away the significance in later weeks/months when his love was much, much greater.

Judy, obviously disappointed by this response, pressed and asked WHEN exactly that would be. His response: when dLove/dt = zero.
