I've really got to learn to just do the damage and get out of town. It's the 'stay and gloat' that gets me every time.

I've pretty much learned the borders of the zones for the places it matters for me -- the only one that I really need to care about is the Florida Ave. border in Adams Morgan. But I live right near a zone border, so I can go about twenty blocks east on the one zone fare, but more than about three blocks west gets me the two zone fare.

I LOVED the Zone system, but I had it figured out. I lived on the edge of one zone and I knew if only I would cross the street my fair was substantially less.

See, whereas I lived six blocks from the zone edge...and generally wanted to go about six or eight blocks over the zone edge. So, not close enough to walk to the corner, but short enough trips that it pissed me off to have to pay a two-zone fare! Thus, I almost never took cabs.

Plus, I knew the zone boundaries for the zone or two I usually went to, but if I was going somewhere new? Fuggedaboutit.

Happy birthday, Jen! I ate a cupcake in your honor. Actually I ate Matilda's cupcake. Mmmm, gingerbread with cupcake frosting.

Meara, I think I stole a zone map from the back of a cab and then highlighted the zones on the AAA map I had at home.

I'm a loser. What can I say?

Now tagless for your comfort.

Happy Birthday, JenP!

Congrats on the new niece, paperdol!

Jessica, Dylan keeps getting CUTER--which should be illegal. It's amazing. Sometimes he looks EXACTLY like you but sometimes he looks like his dad. He really has a lot of personality for such a wee kid.

GreatPumpkin!Matilda is also of the adorable.

I've been fielding Freecycle emails all freakin' morning and cleaning closets. Weird detritus is found at the back of closets and the bottom of drawers. People are always willing to claim the flotsam and jetsam, though.

watching the CSI marathon on Spike - this one has Ed Quinn (sans facial hair) and David Anders (uncredited, it seems).

Pushing Daisies Thought:

So, I figured that Ned's touch not only brought back the dead until he exanimated them again through his touch. This was based mostly on Digby still being alive after 20+ years. But I dunno why but I think I got dissuaded from that based on something I read. Then I read on the ABC website that he's such a great piemaker because he makes the rotten fruit get better and filled with "everlasting" goodness. Everlasting? Does that mean indigestible?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Everlasting as long as he only touches them once.

Edit: Heh!

That could be terribly disconcerting. Like when you feed a kid in diapers corn for the first time.

Does anybody have a cult cookie favorite?

I just discovered Anna's Lemon Flavored Thins (Delgaditas Sabor Limon), a Swedish Recipe (the box assures me) by Appointment to H.M. the King of Sweden.

Very tasty.

Cult cookie nominees would be made by some small or local or some not-nationally-distributed brand. Something you can only get in Massepequa or downtown Los Angeles or when you visit your Granny in Scotland, or from that one weird corner store with Swedish imports.
