They made my life so much easier. And we're talking a decade ago so its not like freakin Word couldn't have figured out these features by now.

Don't feel too bad. On Tuesday I felt completely un-gronked and had to look at my driver's license to verify what my address was. Who knew senior moments started in ones 40s.
When I was editing news releases, we used this program that would let you take a messy jumble with stupidified line breaks and "make paragraph". I miss that tool from that job ten years ago.

You can reveal codes in Word, I think. Is that to show formatting symbols?
If so, Tools/Options/View tab/Non-printing characters -- you can check all or check the ones you want to see. You can also do this by hitting the paragraph button on the standard toolbar.

It seems like at least ONE Hanson should be 30 by now.

Tools > Options > View.
For field codes, make sure the field codes box is checked.
